11 THE WASHINGTON TBIES. JANUARY 22, 1D1B. Tri-City Tenpin Match Presents Best Bowlers Of Cities Represented William Knox, of Philadelphia; Harry Krauss, of Washington, and Johns and Koster, of New York, Will Be Watched Carefully in Quaker City Competition Tonight. By KIRK C. MILLER.

Aside from the boosting that is to be done by the Washington bowlers who go to Philadelphia today to roll teams of that place and New York, the actual tenpin rolling presents an aspect that is a fascinating problem to the who arc familiar with the bowling ability of the men who have been named for that responsibility. It is true that the best "civic workers" who are also identified with the grand indoor pastime are going along to attract the interest of the Quakers in the tournament which is to be held here starting April it is equally true that the best bowlers are going to make the trip for the purpose of "rolling the competition off their feet." Washington has a dual purpose in sending today's delegation to Philadelphia, first to boost and second to bowl, and both departments of the visit will bo urgrttly waged. Tonight's games will be rolled at the Keystone alleys. ABLE BOWLERS ARE COMPETING. Included In the stellar tenpin material which makes up the two teami representing Washington are men who are known to have unfaltering ability on the alleys, and a mere glance at the line-ups tabulated here furnishes conclusive proof of tho sincerity of purpose of the bowlers Involved.

Probably first In Importance to be mentioned Is the Indubitable Harry Krauss who has ulways represented this city In tenpin matters, both at home and abroad. Krauss has created a sensation wherever he has rolled, and W. V. Thompson, the father of bowling, said In Boston laBt ear that "Krauss Is the most expert bowler I have ever watch-od." In so saying Thompson ecohed the sentiments of all Washington, and in fact the sentiments of everyone wno has seen Krauss at labor on the alleys. This ubiquitous bowler has held championship after championships with the greatest grace that a title holder could ever nourish a crown and to all appearances he has not retarded a single step In his work.

He Is bettor than ever. If he has undergone any chnngo in the past five or six years, oertalnly he has taken no step backwards. Supporting Krauss are Jimmy KleldB, who has done much to keep up interest In tenpins in Washington during the successful reign of the duckpins; A. N. Allison, another stand-patter; Frank McManamy, who has stuck to the game like tanglefoot; I.

C. Fritz, a frequent winner in city and national tournaments, and Harry Waters, than whom trie re is no more consistent and capaDie roller of the big pins. These men will roll on a team to be known as the Iroquois. The second Washington team will be made up of equally as fine talent, there being as a leader Dick Barber and to aid him D. D.

Walker, Eddie McKnew, C. F. Jacobaon and George Garrett. This quintet has rolled together successfully under one name or another for nearly ten years, and their prizes and trophies arc to be envied by any other team in the country. Philadelphia has assembled two tenpin teams which are calculated to furnish stubborn resistance for the Washington teams, and New York has corralled its best bowling business men to go to the Quaker City tonight.
