t. Si.s, S. (oette. J. At the conclusion of the installation ceremonies a delicious cold lunch was served in the ante-room, and this feature of the program proved particularly timely and enjoyable.

The proceedings througho it were of a most interesting and inspiring character, and mluch enthusiasm was manifested by the members present. Besides installing its officers, the lodge transacted a large amount of rou.ine business and also considered plans and specifications for the handsome two-story brick building which it proposes to erect on the site recently purchased from Paul Wutke, in Railroad avenue. It is expected that work on the structure will be commenced in tile near future. L. J.

Echeverria, who, with Henry A. Dugas of Paincourtville, recently acquired the meat market of Joseph Rivet in Churchville, opposite the T. anid P. passenger depot, has leased Felix Acosta's butcher shop in Division street and will hereafter operate tilac establishment also. By the terms of the lease Mr.

Echeverria secures possession of Mr. Acosta's pasture and slaughter-house on Bayou Lafourche, it being Mr. Acosta's intention to retire from the wholesale and retail imeat business and to engage ill the buying and selling of live cattle. By the acquisition of this desirable property Mr. Echeverria has increased his already ample facilities for furnishing the choicest and best meat it is possible to obtain, and his customers are assured that he will leave nothing undone to serve them satisfactorily and merit their patronage and good-will.

Dudley C. Cason, 23 years old and single, who resided at Independence, accidentally shot himself on Easter Sunday at Sorrento, in the seventh ward of this parish, where he was employed as millwright. Cason and a friend went out in the morning with a target rifle to practice shooting. While they were going thro the woo-Casn sw so that he might shoot it. The friend re passed the rifle barrel first, and while Cason was pulling the weapon toward of him it was accidentally discharged, the bullet striking the unfortunate young man of in the head just above the right eye and penetrating the brain.

An effort was id made to convey Cason to a hospital in ng Orleans, but the injured man died g' before reaching that city. His remains c. were laid to rest at Independence on le Tuesday, March 29. A large delegation of members of Ascension Council No. 1087, Knights of Cols umbus, will leave for Thibodaux tomorrow morning to participate in the ceremonies incidental to the joint initiation of a class of fifty or more applicants for admission into the Donaldsonville, Napoleonville.

Mollere, and Ferrier Blanchard, of Donaldsonviile. The Knights will make the trip to Thibodaux on a special train from New Orleans over the T. and P. Railway, which will pass here at 9 o'click a. in.

Returning, the train will leave Thibodaux at 9 p. in. It would be difficult to imagine or conceive of prettier weather than that which is presently prevailing in this locality. In fact, the opinion is expressed by some that the weather is altogether too pretty, in as much as it is clear and dry, when what is needed just now is a series of soaking rains at frequent intervals. The territory immediately adjacent to Donaldsonville has been blessed with severa nice precipitations during the past ten days, the most recent of these showers having been experienced ea 1l last Tuesday morning.

Other sections o0 the parish have not fared so well, ever, and the call for moisture from neglected localities is beginning to be nsistent and appealing. Mr. and Mrs. Joseph B. Becknel announce the engagement of their daughter Camille, to Edmond B.

Wilson were named alternate delegates. Decoration Day Observed. The anniversary of the battle of Shiloh, which occurred last Wednesday, was observed as Decoration Day by Major Victor Maurin Camp No. 38, U. C.

in accordance with orders issued by General Thomas J. Shaffer, commanding the Louisiana division of the United Confederate Veterans. Assembling at their headquarters, the veterans marched in a body to the Catholic church, where a solemn requiem mass was celebrated at 9 o'clock a. im. by Rev.

Eugene Hubert. At the conclusion of the impressive services, the assemblage repaired to the tomb of Major Victor Maurin Camp in the Catholic cemetery, where the usual appropriate exercises were carried out, closing with interesting addresses by Past Division Commander Edmund Maurin of the U. S. C. and Lieut.

railroad to C. C. Barton's Little Texas plantation in Assumption parish, where it will be reerected and used to furnish water to the sugarhouse in grinding seasons. The big tank was sold to Joseph T. Cafiero by the town council some months ago, and was subsequently re-sold by Mr.

Cafiero to Mr. Barton. It was taken down in four sections, and last week these sections were placed on fliats and conveyed to the T. and P. tracks, where they were loaded on flat-cars for shipment to Little Texas.
