admission tickets will be 3250 University Students will be admitted free with Student Activities Card the movies "The French and MThe Kansas City LANNY MORGAN is a well-known alto saxophonist probably best remembered for his years as lead alto with the Maynard Ferguson Band (I960 to 1966) Morgan has also worked with Si Zentner Charlie Barnet and Billy May He is currently active in television studio work playing cm such shows as Merv Griffin and Bobby Darin FRANKIE KAPP is presently a studio drummer in Hollywood- In the past he has played with Stan Kenton Harry James Billy May and Maynard Ferguson He played back-up drums with Ben Webster Andre Previn Peggy Lee and Ella Fitzgerald Currently he is Steve Allen's drummer and backs Allen on all recordings personal appearances 'and television shows The trombone judge-clinician Fred Carter is featured soloist and lead trombone with the Harry James Band Originally from Oklahoma he went on scholarship to West Texas State University and played DONELUS Don Elli internationally famous trumpeter and band leader wiU be the star attraction at the 1875 Festival of Jazs to be held on the campus of the University of Texas at El Paso Friday and Saturday Other soloists and clinicians signed by Gene Lewis director of bands are Frankie Kapp drums Fred Carter trombone and Lanny Morgan alto sax These musicians will serve as judges and clinicians for the Festival and wiU also solo with the UTEP Jazz Lab Ensemble DON ELLIS is a jazz trumpeter who is credited with some of the most innovative and avante garde ideas of trumpet playing and big band sounds of the last two decades He has performed with welt known jazz organizations the New York Philharmonic under the baton of Leonard Bernstein and has had his own composition performed by the Los Angeles Philharmonic Zubin Mehta conducting Nominated for Grammy Awards for the last four years he has taught composition arranging improvisation and History of Jazz at UCLA and San Fernando Valley State College He wrote the music for Alan Titus The young American baritone Alan Titus who rose to fame as the Celebrant in the world premiere of at the opening at the John Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts in 1971 will be in El Paso Friday for one of the Community Concert series He will be heard at Liberty Hall at 8pm He debuted with the Santa Fe Opera following the success where he starred in the American premiere of Benjamin "Owen Wingrave" He also sang with with the Amarillo Symphony He received the award as the "most outstanding brass West Texas State Carter toured with Lee Castle and the Jimmy Dorsey Orchestra He played for a while with Duke Ellington and then joined Stan Kenton and stayed with that band for nearly three years touring the US and Europe Plaza Theater at 8 pm on Wednesday March 19 in a concert sponsored by the Texas Club Directed by Robert Boone Texas AIM Music Coordinator and accompanied by Mrs June Biering the Singing Cadets reach audiences through the fervor and enthusiasm of young men who sing from their hearts the pure joy of THE primary element in the 75 years of musical history the Singing Cadets have made in the Southwest
