4-N Hit Arizona Kept? QN9 iy, Feb. 1MI Vthrnttotiji In the Valley Not much talent coming to Phoenix? Take look at this By JON A lot of people within our town local entertainment establishment have been predicting a concert drought. The usual reasons behind this pessimistic attitude tend to run from "Phoenix people just aren't move rs" to "too many un- Sargent needed hassles are thrown at the promoters." But one quick peek at this month's talent line-up will hiost assuredly disprove any rumors. Yes, the su- iter-happenings (like the Iron Butterfly shindig) are slowly slipping away, but instead are being replaced with smaller, more tasty get- togethers. The Judy Collins event at the Phoenix Forum next Saturday is a good example.

Although Miss Collins has had some fairly strong success on her last single "Both Sides Now," she is not what producers might call "a sure bet." She is, however, one of the truly great talents of our generation. She has been kicking around the business for the last several years with her folksy soprano getting only occasional acknowledgment. Fortunately for us, we will now be among those able to add even more occasional acknowledgment. ANOTHER GOOD example is the Taj Mahal thing the following night (next Sunday) also at Phoenix Forum. Produced by the Plaza Three Mannequins, director Helen Ross is showing her astute awareness fay combining a fashion show with rock.

They hope to pull off a national first with the unique fashion follower's presentation. As for Taj Mahal, he's one of the top rated acid-blues singers in the world today. SARGENT Having recorded with such pop greats as Mick Jagger, Mitch Mitchell, Eric Clapton, and John Lennon, Mahal also is a rare musical treat for Valleyites. Or did I make my point? RANDOM RAPPING. The George Washington Bridge has decided to quit horsing around and get down to business.

The first move on their agenda is a name change. Henceforth they should be referred to as Trigger Butch Lowry is Bob Sikora's latest country-western discovery. Butch will have a recording of "All Over Now" (penned by KTUF radio's very own Woody Star) out on Dot Records shortly Manager George Laibe reports all is well and fine with Stan Devereaux and the Trendsetters. George Carillo has been added to the drum- set while the combo fills out their current Hawaii gig. Memphis Soul (fast becoming my favorite Valley gathering) has found a true admirer in Rusty Warren.

The star is claiming only good things are in line for the boys. And while on the subject of Memphis Soul, Fast Eddie, the proud proprietor of the Band Box, wants all to know that they will be featured in a weekly Sunday afternoon jamset beginning today. AND THEN I WROTE. Ricky Nelson, star of yesteryear's "Ozzie and Harriet" tver, will be the featured attraction at JD's this week. His performance will start Wednesday eve Ron Harris and his Cinemedia company are interested in finding the whereabouts of all local thespians.

He hopes to compile a catalog for presentation to movie producers. Any interested party is urged to contact him. Symphony program Eduardo Mata, music direc- tpr and conductor of the Orchestra of the National University of Mexico, will be guest conductor at three concerts by the Phoenix Symphony Orchestra, at 3 p.m. today in Grady Gammage Auditorium, at 8:30 p.m. tomorrow in Gammage and at 8:30 p.m.

Tuesday in Phoenix Union Auditorium. Guest soloist will violinist Itzhak Perlman, featured in the Lalo. The program will be: "El Jiminez; "Symphonic a 1 Lalo; Symphony No. 1 in Mahler. Tickets are available through the Community Box Office; students presenting ID cards at the door will be admitted at a discount.

Guess who thinks miniskirts are vulgar Gina Lollobrigida Actor emotes ivay out of jmper bag HOLLYWOOD Throughout his professional career, actor Kurt Kasznar has been described by numerous complimentary terms. However, until he assumed the starring role of Alexander Fitzhugh in Irwin Allen's series, "Land of the Giants," Kasznar thought he'd heard all possible descriptions. "I've heard of prizefighters who've been described as not being able to punch their way out of a wet paper bag," he said, "but I'm probably the only actor who can act his way out of a paper bag, "and it was dry at that." That precisely is what Kasznar had to do in filming the forthcoming "Night of the Thrombeldinbar" emote his way out of a 14- foot-deep brown paper bag. His comment on completing the scene: "I'd hate to meet the man who carries his lunch in that!" By PATRICIA E. DAVIS United Press international NEW YORK Italian film star Gina Lollobrigida calmly smoothed a wrinkle in her flaming red crocheted see- through dress and commented that miniskirts are "vulgar there is nothing left for the imagination." "I think in a mini you can't look like a lady," added the actress, long noted for her plunging necklines.

"They show so much the poor men they have nothing left to discover." The curvaceous star who obviously could do for a mini what few women can also admitted that her 11-year-old son Milko's disapproval of a miniskirted mother also "influenced her. "He says no minis so I don't wear." Gina, in New York to plug her latest movie, "Buona Sera, Mrs. Campbell," is separated from her Yugoslavian husband of 20 years, Dr. Milko Skofic. "I have a kind of invalid divorce.

I'm Italian so I can't remarry but never, never would I remarry anyway," she said. "In Italy we are lucky. We are saved from another mistake. I like to be free. I like to change my mind every minute.

"Being in love is great," she added, "but you should not sign a contract for life. You may know how you will feel about the person tomorrow but you can't be sure how the other person will feel. People change." The 40-year-old actress, who has made more than 50 films, says she now works when she feels like it. "I work for pleasure. Before I worked to further my career and for the money.

Now is the best time of my career I work when I want and if I like." The actress spends most of her time when not working indulging in one of her favor- ite pleasures traveling. "I'm never more than a week in one place," she said. "I like to be busy. The wonderful thing about the film business is that you have so many friends all over the world. I like to visit cities where I have good friends." For Immediate Reservation! Ill N.
