Monday The funeral is today (Thursday) at Evercreech Mr Henderson A Boer War veteran Mr Walter Henderscn formerly of Board Cross Shepton Mallet died at the home of his daughter at Minchinhampton Gloucester last week aged 84 He was bom at Wells and was a plasterer and tiler by trade He married Miss Sabrina Lavina Vernon at St Church Wells and they came to Shepton Mallet in 1923 when they resided at Leg Square later at Board Cross Mr Henderson' retired from business some 20 years ago and had been living with hi daughter Mrs Evans at Gloucestershire for the last two years He leaves five sons and a daughter Mr Henderson who served in the Somerset Light Infantry and was a Boer War veteran served' under three reigns The funeral was on Friday at Shepton Mallet when the Curate the Rev Bruce Curry officiated Principal mourners were Mr and Mrs Henderson Mr and Mrs A Henderson Mr and Mrs Henderson Mr and Mrs Henderson (sons and daughters-m-law) Mr and Mrs Evans (daughter and on Christmas Eve of Mr Arthur Denis Gait and his wife Mildred Annie of Trelawney Pilton who were both killed in a triple road crash at East Compton last week Mrs Gait a teacher at Pilton School was headmistress of Oakhill School for 18 years and the family moved to Pilton soon after the death of their eldest son John wno died in a road accident about four years ago Mr Gait head gardener at Norah Fry Hospital Shepton Mallet was the elder son of Mrs Gait and the late Mr A Gait of Gurney Slade He moved with his parents ana family to Pitcote Farm Stratton-on-the-Fosse when he was 16 and helped in the running of the farm This is now run by bis younger brother Douglas He married the former MisS Mildred Annie the eldest daughter of Mr and Mrs Nurse of Lark Farm Lottisham at Holcombe Methodist Church Mrs Gait educated at Elmhurst School Street and later a student at the Goldsmith Training College London had been teaching at the Stockhill village school Some time after their marriage they moved to Oakhill During the 18 yean that Mrs Gait was school Mr Gait was working as gardener at Ashwick Grove and subsequently at Oakhill House and Norah Fry Hospital On moving to Oakhill Mr Gait who had played cricket for Stockhill was instrumental in the re-formation of Oakhill Cricket Club and was its captain and later secretary His earlier sporting activities included soccer 'and hockey and he was secretary for some yean of the Holcombe mixed hockey club Mrs Gait was also actively con with village affairs among them the playing fields committee tennis club parish council and parochial church council At Pilton the was also active and performed services on behalf of Norah Fry Hospital and was a valued member of the Women's Institute The Rev Ridler (Vicar) conducted the funeral
