Henry Simmons, 78, sheriff of Bingham county for five terms, died Friday at a Pocatello hospital, apparently of a heart attack.

One of the colorful pioneer figures of the county, he had been resident of East Idaho for seventy years. He was born In Simmonsville, in 1871 and came, at the age of eight, with his parents to Marsh valley by covered wagon and ox team. In 1882 the family moved to Blackfoot where Mr. Simmons has since resided. In 1895 he married Inez Wright who died in 1940.

In 1945 he married Mrs. Emmarene Christiansen of Riverside. Elected Bingham county sheriff in 1914, he filled that office until 1924. Mr. Simmons was a member of the Methodist church, of Golden Rule lodge IOOF and of Grove City lodge, AFand AM.

Surviving, besides the widow, are six sons and daughters by his first marriage: Mrs. E. E. Soucie, Wenatchee, Mrs. Kenneth S.

MacKenzie, Oakland, Darwin W. Simmons, Whitehall, Carroll H. Simmons, Seattle, Herbert S. Simmons, West Yellowstone, Mont; Theodore H. Simmons, Stockton, by 14 grandchildren and by a sister at Lava Hot Springs.

Funeral services will be held Monddy at 1 p.m. at the Sandberg Funeral home with the Rev. W. H. Hertzog of the Methodist church officiating.

Friends may call at the funeral home. Burial will be in the Grove City cemetery.
