period during the school year Enrollment Down It is on this basis that the district receives student and teacher apportionments from the state However school en rollment this year was lower than officials had estimated ant said the attendance fig ures for the last four months have been compiled but have not been reported yet He did note however that as expected the school population aid not increase School Supt Marvin Picollo said that at this point the school population is exactly what we had predicted it would be at this particular time felt that the enrollment would fall off as it has always done every year It peaks at the beginning of the year It has followed the same pattern but not as much as Because of this Picollo said regular attendance at classes is encouraged "This helps in so far as the ADA is concerened and indirectly the amount of monies the school district re ceives we are going to have to be very careful for the remaining portion of the School officials are hoping that a flu epidemic which low ered the ADA last year will not re occur again ant said he hopes to have the preliminary budget ready for presentation to the school board in ebruary It will be presented to the Ne vada Tax Commission in March and a budget hearing will be held in April 4 If the legislature decides to allot additional funds to the Wrong Address Given in Story In a story published GRAY RENO CARSON CITY In inances Hie Washoe County School District will probably have to severely limit funds for capital outlay and improvements in its 1967 68 fiscal budget The reason according to John ant school district fi nance director is that there Is no other choice we cut generally im provements go first We have programs that must continue from year to year and we cut ant said yester day we have to go into re pairs and replacements But the Bad part of that is that it catch es up with you Then we have to go into the area of sup ant who is charged with taking the myriad of requests from various schools and de partments and fitting them in the budget noted that these areas must be cut because oth er budget items cannot be changed Insurance a do away with in surance We change sal 1 aries they take up 80 per cent of the budget 1 cut utilities and We have to keep the buildings clean There much we can cut after capital outlay We have tried cutting text and li brary books but we are limited there Smaller Budget The problem stems from the fact that the school district must prepare a smaller budget than Its total operating budget for this fiscal year Last year the bud get was approximately J135 mil lion But in 1967 68 the district will have to do without the $345000 provided for this year by the special session of the legislature in May Although school officials maintain that more money Is needed they must stay with in the law In preparing the budget According to ant areas most likely to be curtailed are re quests for additional equipment such as slide film projectors requests for special areas busi ness machines and improve ments to the buildings and the grounds we the school board will be faced with the problem of what programs can be cut And no matter what there will be a lot of complaints about It he said schools ant said he will have In preparing the budget for I to revise the budget GRAY SHOP THURS RI MON 9:30 AMto 9:00 PM TUES WED SAT 9:30 4 A great collection 2 pc suits!
