Tinnin to head farm Sikeston man gets 30 days inquiry PO RTAGEVILLE State Sen. Nelson B. Tinnin of Hornersville, chairman of a legislative panel studying agricultural problems, announced today that he has scheduled a public hearing of his subcommittee of the Joint Legislative Committet on Agriculture to be held on Oct. 14 to explore possible remedies for certain segments of ailing agricultural industry. The hearing will be conducted at the University of Missouri Delta Center in Portagevill and will convene at 2 p.m.

Sen. Tinnin said the hearing is called in conjunction with a study authorized by the Missouri General Assembly of certain conditions in the agricultural industry, particularly to determine the adequacy of state laws affecting corporate farming activities and to investigage the high cost of feed, grain and fertilizer which threatens an adequate food supply for consumers. Tinnin explained that he is seriously concerned with present conditions which lessen the productivity and adversely affect the prosperity of family farmers in Missouri, as well as the resulting effects of massive corporate farming on the family sized farming operations and the general welfare of the people of Missouri. need to preserve the family sized farms lest the big corporations branch further out into the agriculture field and get complete control of every aspect of Tinnin said. farmers are already caught up in a near- chaotic cost- price Tinnins said, Missouri farmers are literally taking a beating in the overall agriculture Findings of the subcommittee are expected to help determine the need for remedial legislation, if any, to solve existing problems in the agriculture industry, especailly the need to place some form of statutory limitations on the size and scope of the activities of family farming corporations.

Members of the legislative panel are Sen. Norman Merrell, (D) of Monticello; Sen. Nelson B. Tinnin, (D) of Hornersville; Sen. William J.

Esely, (R) of Bethany; State Rep. D. R. Osbourn, (D) of Monroe City; and State Rep. William Blackwell, (D) of Herman.

Curtis Bonds of Siksston Was sentenced to 30 days in jail Tuesday in Magistrate Court proceedings in the Sikeston courtroom for possession of marijuana. Three other persons were placed on probation, including Alfred Merrill Pearson of Sikeston, speeding, 90 days in jail suspended and two years on probation; Louis Montjoy of Sikeston, attempted stealing, suspended six- month jail sentence, two yeare on probation; Charlie Lee of Malden, insufficient funds check, suspended 60-day jail sentence and two years on probation. Jim Sloan of Sikeston was bound over to Circuit Court to appear Oct. 10 on forgery charges. Kenneth Grimes of Sikeston pleaded guilty to possession of marijuana, and punishment was taken undervisement until Oct.
