Two things: Most people have never heard of them and all are headlining an upcoming festival in Birmingham that draws fans from across America In its third year Furnace Fest 2002 will feature more than 100 bands on two stages at Sloes Furnaces Thursday through Aug 3 The lineup is composed of underground bands playing hardcore punk emo or indie rock music Chris Johnson a long-time fan of hardcore launched Furnace Fest in 2000 to bring the bands on his independent label Take Hold Records to the stage Johnson ran Take Hold out of his garage in Birmingham until late 2001 when the Seattle-based label Tooth and Nail Records bought out his catalog and hired him as director of international distribution Johnson moved to Seattle in March but Furnace Fest stayed in Birmingham at least for this year Tooth and Nail which represents mostly underground hardcore and punk bands has jumped on board helping promote the event among fans of this music Johnson said he has sold Som
