OFFICE EQUIPMENT CO. 404 South Illinois Phone 517L CARBONDALE ST 3 a Farm Bureau Federation state or ganizations have gone on record in avor of restoring the so-called base acreage plan. The federation leaders voiced opposition Monday to the current corn acreage allotment plan, sav ing that its further continuance would jeopardize substantial participation in the 1957 soil bank pro gram.

The federation waged a cam paign against the acreage allot ment plan in a recent corn farm ers referendum. The federation presidents from Illinois, Iowa, Minnesota, Kansas, isconsin, Ohio, Indiana and Missouri convened in Chicago at the invitation of American Farm Bureau Federation president Charles B. Shuman of Sullivan, 111. Under the acreage allotment plan, participating farmers would be granted support loans at 77 per cent of parity. However, all-over planting would be limited to 388,000 acres, as compared to the 1956 acreage of 43,380,534.

T1 1 ine Dase acreage plan provides for support at about 74 per cent of parity, but sets the acreage limit a 51 million acres for plant ings under the sou bank program. Fhe convening FBF leaders said cheap corn and lower livestock prices would result from what they termed the low rate of com pliance in prospect for the allot ment program. Thev claimed he 11.. allotment program lias laiicd to meet the challenge of the diverted acreage problem.
