January 4, 1936 LOCAL NEWS Gerald Colman, who has been spending his vacation with his parents at Callao, returned to Columbia Thursday to resume his school work at the Missouri University and to continue his office duties in the Dsychology department. Finis Miles of Bevier was a Macon caller this morning. Miss Dixie Pound will leave Sunday for Fayette to resume her at Central after spending the holiday vacation with her parents, the Rev. and Mrs. J.

Presley Pound, at the Episcopal rectory. Mrs. Frances Williams Belsher of this city but who is at present secretary for George C. Johnson, state purchasing agent of Missouri, has returned to Jefferson City after southern trip to New Orleans and Baton Rouge, Louisian: a1 spending the holidays with her daughter, Mrs. A.

B. Hamilton, and family. Ed A. Demeter will spend Sunday in Chillicothe with his daughter, Mrs. P.

Milbank and Mr. Milbank. Mr. Demeter's sister-in-law and Mrs. Milbanks aunt.

Mrs. Clarence Henly, of Oklahoma City is a guest in the Milbank home. 0. A. Roland Injured 0.

A. Roland, salesman, of Quincy, sustained cuts on the head early this morning in a car accident. He was' brought to the Jefferson Hotel where he was treated. In reporting the accident it Mr. Roland collided with a truck on the overhead bridge east of Callao on Highway 36.

His car was damaged to considerable extent, it is said. First 1936 Baby The first 1936 baby to arrive at the Samaritan Hospital was born this morning at 7:00 o'clock to Mr. and Mrs. Howard Fox. The young man weighed seven pounds and has been named James Howard.

Honoring Miss Edna Naylor tained the young the MaMrs. Claude Atteberry, entercon-Atlanta State Bank at a dinner evening at the Atteberry home on North Rollins street in compliment to Miss Edna Naylor. Miss Naylor, who has been assisting at the bank since July, is returning to her home Kirksville Sunday. She will resume her work as bookkeeper for the Shinn Hatchery at LaPlata the first of the week Miss Lucille Nugent of Moberly was among the out of town callers here Friday. Two Wedding Licenses Issued Recorder of Deeds Everett Frazee had his first request of 1936 Tor wedding licenses Friday.

Two were issued yesterday, one in the morning and one in the afternoon. Both couples requested secrecy concerning their plans. Wood Chopping Monday, December 30, 1935, six men were thoughtful enough of Mr. and Mrs. Will Groce to meet and cut and haul wood.

The Groces are always thankful of deeds of kindness shown them. Mrs. Tom Barnett and Miss Marjorie Wright assisted Mrs. Groce with her dinner. The men namely were John Wright, son Emery, Joe Canada, Orville Coffman, Noah Biswell and Dave Wright.

Hattie Belle Posey was called to her parental home Tuesday morning as her mother, Mrs. W. H. Ketcham was She had a stroke a few days before. She passled away New Years eve.

We all extend our greatest sympathy to Mr. Ketcham and children. The many friends and neighbors of Mrs. Lillie Rhoades were saddened to hear of her death which occurred at her home in Marshall where the family had resided for several years. She was born and reared in this community.

We all extend our sincere sympathy to the family and all the relatives in their sad bereavement. Mrs. Belle Norton and Mrs. Lucille Norton attended the Ladies Aid as Bloomington Tuesday. They met at the church and quilted on two quilts.

Mrs. Hazel Andrews and daughter, Elizabeth and son, Jim spent Monday with her father, Welden Posey. Mr. and Mrs. George Carey little daughter, Susanne spent last Saturday at the latter's parents, Mr.

and Mrs. Guy Norton and assisted them with their butchering. Welden Posey and Miss Louise Schwenk were dinner guests in the George Andrews home Wednesday. Joe Miller and family visited Mr. and Mrs.

George Spencer and son, Paul last Sunday. Richard Dean Wise took sick Monday night with a breaking out of some kind. OAK RIDGE OAK RIDGE Mr. and Mrs. Louie Ostertog and son, Earl of Springfield, left Monday for their home after spendthe Christmas holidays with his mother, Mrs.

Mrs. Leist remained for a few days visit. The teacher, Mrs. Frank Burkhardt and pupils entertained the patrons of the school with a nice program and Christmas tree on Tuesday afternoon. The pupils enjoyed a nice treat from their teacher.

The visitors also enjoyed a nice treat of candy. School was dismissed the remainder of the week for a few days vacation. Miss Ida Lee Stroppel, Miss Irene O'Toole and Arthur and Omer Binder spent Sunday with Mr. and Mrs. A.

She was united in matriage to Clifford Cupp June 13, 1925, and was the sixth child of Milton and Ellen Forsythe.

She was preceded in death by her father, mother, three brothers and two sisters. Besides the bereaved husband she leaves one sister, Mrs. Willie Borron, and one brother, Theophilus, to mourn her departure. She spent almost two years in the West for the benefit of her health, which gradually failed and came home November 18 to be with her sister and family who, with her husband tenderly cared for her until the end. To know Nela was to love her, and wherever she was many friends who will always "miss her.

Nela read her Bible faithfully, and was comforted by the many promises therein. Her favorite chapter was St. John 14. Funeral services at Mt. Tabor, conducted by were Rev.

T. C. Northup. Interment in the adjoining cemetery. Honoring Chicago Guest Mrs.

Paul Hess entertained 18 young ladies with a buffet supper Friday evening at the Hess home on North Rubey street in compliment to her house guest, Miss Joan Lyding, of Chicago. Miss Jane Ralston, who has been spending the holidays with her parents. Mr. and Mrs. A. D.

Ralston, will leave Sunday for College Heights, where she is a members of the faculty of the Hannibal-LaGrange College at Hannibal. Miss Doris Gieselman will leave Sunday for St. Charles where she teaches in Lindenwood College. Miss Gieselman has been spending the holidays at home. Mrs.

J. L. Britt Dies May. Georgia Richmond Britt, wife of J. L.

Britt, a passed away Friday afternoon at 3:00 o'clock at her home, south of Kaseyville. She had been bedfast only a short time. Mrs. Britt was born in Macon county March 23, 1875, the daughter of Lewis and Martha Richmond. She was 60 years, months and 10 days old at the time of her death.

Surviving are her husband. four sons and four daughters. Funeral services will be held Sunday afternoon at 2:00 o'clock at Hebron Church, conducted by Rev Owens of College Mound. Mr. and Mrs.

George D. Mason of La Plata were Macon callers today. Mr. and Mrs. Mason have just returned from a visit with relatives in Los Angeles, Calif.

Miss Lily V. Haley is Hostess Friends of Miss Lily V. Haley were delightfully entertained Friday evening at a house warming at Miss Haley's new home on Highway 36. Miss Haley and her parents, Mr. and Mrs.

E. V. Haley, moved to their new home which is of English Colonial design during the holidays. Guests last night numbered over 55. A ping pong and carron tournament furnished entertainment.

-of-town guests were Miss Joan Lyding of Chicago, Charles Cornwell of Kirksvillo and Charles Caldwell of Fayette. Mr. and Mrs. Loren Reynolds and daughter, Mary Margaret, will go to Brookfield Sunday to attend" the funeral services of F. L.

Sanford, prominent hardware merchant, who died suddenly January 3. Mr. Sanford's daughter, Mrs. Grace Markham, and Mrs. Reynolds were roommates during the time they were students at the Kansas City Conservatory of Music.

Miss Pauline Battson of Rockport, Illinois, who is spending the holidays with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. F. M. Battson, and family near Callao, was a Macon visitor Friday.

The third and 1 fourth grade languaga classes have been studying Christmas stories and poems. Durwood Creed has been absent from school for over a month due to illness. Brooksie Morgan who has been attending school at Excello entered here December 11th. Our teacher gave us a Thanksgiving party. Several visitors attended, namely: Floyd Lee Watkins, Betty Alice Watkins, Betty Marie Moore, and Velma Creed.

Games were played and refreshments of bananas, candy bars and pop corn were served. We gave our Christmas program Friday afternoon December 20. The program consisted of the following: A song by the school, "It Came Upon the Midnight Clear." A speech "I Wonder," by Mary Maud Teter. A dialogue "Ruben Springs A Surprise." A speech "Christmas Joy." by Brooksie Morgan. A reading "What the Reindeer Did," by Marjorie Jean Moore.

A speech, "Overheard at Christmas," by Brooksie Morgan. A reading "The Inn Keepers Story," by Gertrude Teter. dialogue, "'The Colored Santa." A "speech, Santa's by Durwood Creed. A dialogue "Br'er Johnston's Sermon." After the program, gifts were distributed and a treat of candy and oranges was given the school children, College Mound School Notes The month ended on the 27th of December. We had our Christmas and tree We all enjoyed our vacation.

There were 26 perfect in spelling. There were 31 perfect in attendance. We sold a few Christmas seals. With the pie supper money we bought two balls and two bats. The ones that received the prizes in spelling for the last quarter were: 1st grade, Montzelle Leathers.

2nd grade, Dallas Garner. 3rd grade, Betty Mae Kamp 4th grade, Mary E. Perkins. 5th grade, Dorothy Jean Greer. 7th grade, William Circle Visitors always welcome.

Reporter, Billy Powell. Friday, December 20, closed the first half of our school term. We hope to accomplish as much in the next four months as we have in the past four. Maxine Dossey was perfect in tendance last month. Those on the spelling honor roll last, manth were: Donald Bolin, Maxine Dossey and Billy Bolin.

Those on the honor roll this quarter were: Donald Bolin, Maxine Dossey and Billy Powell. On Friday afternoon, December 20, we had our Christmas tree and program. Due to the cold weather some who had planned to come, were unable to attend. However, we had a nice little crowd. Our schoolroom was decorated in keeping with the Christmas season.

Window decorations were small lighted Christmas trees and window Our sandtable was a Santa Claus scene. We had prepared small gifts for the little folks of this district. SOUTHWEST CALLAO We are glad to report Mrs. Ola Cross and Mrs. Claud Hepworth are both home from the hospitals and are improving nicely. Mr. and Mrs.

Jimmie Wisdom and children spent Thursday with the former's parents, Mr. and Mrs. Will Wisdom, of College Falbert Skinner butchered Friday. Mr. and Mrs.

Guy Hays and moved to the farm they recently bought near Swan Lake school house. Mrs. Fred Rice called on Mrs. R. L.

Majors Tuesday morning. Jack Williams was a Macon caller Saturday. Mr. and Mrs. Manuel Christy of near College Mound moved Tuesday to the Fredda Hewitt farm.

Guy Hays and Jimmie Wisdom each have connected their telephones on line 27 out of Callao. Mr. and Mrs. Fred Rice were all day Sunday guests of the former's I parents, Mr. and Mrs.

Tude Rice. Mr. and Mrs. Herb Abel and two children of Colorado are visiting the latter's parents, Mr. and Mrs.

Charley Wright. Harley Smith was calling at Jim Rogers Sunday. Dortha is staying with Mrs. Claud Hepworth and assisting with the house work. Mr.

and Mrs. Jack Williams were Tuesday evening guests of Mr. and Mrs. R. L.

Majors. Mr. and Mrs. Manuel Christy spent Tuesday night with Mr. and Mrs.

Arnold Day. Arnold and wife accompanied them home and spent the day and assisted them with their work. Since moving there is lots to be done and such kind deeds certainly are to be appreciated. Mr. and Mrs.

Tude Rice spent New Year's day with their son and wife, Mr. and Mrs. Fred Rice. Everett Mallett of Moberly, who has been visiting his parents, Mr. and Mrs.

Jess Mallett spent New Year's day with his sister and husband, Mr. and Mrs. Manuel Christy and also visited in the R. L. Majors home in the afternoon.

During the holdays Mrs. Ira Franks and two daughters, Helen and Madge, were pleased to visit with the formers parents near Ethel, Mr. and Mrs. Cal Elam. Mrs.

J. H. Ratliff is again in our midst, after a very pleasant visit at West Plains. Her son and wife, Mr. and Mrs.

Harry Sleeth, have returned to West Plains after spending Most the week everyone victims of colds or flu throughout the community. Sunday Mr. and Mrs. Paul St. Clair were dinner guests of his sister, Mrs.

Ira Dunseith and husband. Also a daughter, Mrs. John Rockwell, Mr. Rockwell and children were guests in the Dunseith home. Mrs.

Dunseith, accompanied the Rockwells to Bloomington to spend a week. Mr. and Mrs. John Schillie and three children enjoyed a visit with relatives at Novinger during Christmas week. Mrs.

Robert Braley and children of Elmer were welcome visitors of M. H. King and daughters last week. PAGE THREE Mrs. Ed Eaton and son, Stanley, spent last week with her sisters at Star, Naomi and Nina Cherry.
