and add modular replacements at four existing prisons Corrections officials uid the projects will boost the prison capacity by 38 percent from 8974 to 12224 Of the bond money 853 million will go to the Bullock Country Correctional Facility 5 miles east of Union Springs More than 3123 million already has been spent on that minimum and maximum security prison that eventually will have capacity for 800 inmates Initially capacity will be 840 including a 140-bed psychiatric unit Two new prisons will be built in Barbour County A 15 million facility will be constructed I mile west of Clayton with initial capacity of 800 and later maximum population of 850 prisoners It will home both maximum and minimum security inmates and have support facilities for medical treatment education and recreation In the same county where Gov George Wallace was born another 20 million prison will be located near Clio That will house minimum medium and maximum security inmates Like the one near Clayton it initially will handle up to 600 prisoners with later capacity for 850 The other four projects will expand the capacities of three existing prisons and replace facilities for a temporary prison Those will include: A work release addition to Kilby Correctional Facility 10 miles east of Montgomery At a cost of 916 million it will house 200 prisoners A 82 million addition for medium and maximum security inmates at GK Fountain Trusty Facility 8 miles north of Atmore Increasing the capacity of Kilby Correctional Facility from 710 to 860 at a cost of 816 million including 811 million from the bond issue and 8500000 from Department of Corrections capital improvement funds Replacing temporary facilities at Staton Correctional Facility Annex near Speigner in Elmore County The bousing for the medium and maximum security prisoners will cost 89 million Of that 85 milium will come from the bond issue and the other 84 million fjym departmental capital improvement-winds Please turn to PRISONS
