The Wallace Owens reside at 1524 West Madison street, Herrin. Mr. Owen Is manager of the Installation department of the Herrin City Bank. Mrs. Joseph Hellenyf Herrin, Visits in Canada Taffy Helleny of Herrin drove his mother, Mrs.

Joseph Helleny, 500 North Twelfth street, Herrin, to Lambert's field in St. Louis Sunday. Mrs. Helleny flew by plane to Montreal, Canada, where Carfaondale Girl To ilttend Colorado U. Miss Patricia Patterson, daughter of Mr.

and Mrs. Sam Patterson, 231 West Main street. Carbon-dale, will leave Thursday, August IT, for Denver, Colo. Miss Patter-ion has been accepted as a student in physical therapy at the University of Colorado Medical Center. She is a graduate of Carbondale Community high school, 1946, and Southern Illinois university, 1950.

While a student at S. I. Miss Patterson majored in physical education. She was a member of Delta Phi Kappa, honorary physical education sorority, and of the Women's Athletic Association, of which she was vice president her junior year. Miss Patterson will be accompanied on the trip by Miss Doris Murrie, daughter of Mr.

and Mrs. B. J. Murrie, 906 South Elizabeth street, Carbondale. Misr Murrie will return the first of September to resume her position as music teacher in Athens, 111.

12. Her grandson, Elbert Kimmel, of Wood River, returned with her to spend this week. The reunion took place at the home of Arthur Delano, of East St. Louis. Approximately 15 members of the family were present.

Paul Boe- hne and family, 2120 Elm street. Murphysboro, returned last weekend from a ten-day vacation trip in Missouri. The Boehnes spent part of their vacation at the cabin of the Rev. Boehne's brother, near Merrimac Caverns, Stanton, and then visited in St. Louis.

The Rev. Boehne is pastor of the Immanuel Lutheran church of Murphysboro. SPEND VACATION IN ST. LOUIS Mrs. Betty Jeremiah, 1508 Spruce street, is spending a vacation in St.

Both are cousins of Mrs. Robbs. On the vacationers trip Into Georgia, they stopped at Look Out Mountain and took a mile and a half trip on the They also visited Rock City. While driving through the state of Kentucky the could see Ruby Falls which is located on one side of Look Out Mountain. The highlight of their trip was when they took a tour of Okeefenokee Swamp, known throughout the country as "land of the trembling earth." Okeefenokee Swamp is where some of the popular motion pictures are made.

They took a boat excursion trip in the same boat that Dana And rews used in the making of the picture, "Sw3mp Water. The i Okeefenokee Swamp runs Into the Shawnee River. In Jacksonville, the sight-seers visited Oriental Gardens. From there, they motored to Daytona Beach, about 150 miles from Jacksonville, and stopped at the Marine's Studio in Marineland. Marine's Studio is noted to be the only world's occanarium.

Anna McCoskey. Woodrow Ray, son of the Woodrow McCoskeys, returned to Murphysboro and is visiting this week at the home of his grandmother, Mrs. McCoskey. Add celery salt, paprika and Worcest ershire sauce and mix well. Mix in onion salt. Refrigerate until ready to serve. Put in small at tractive serving dish with a feT small butter spreaders. Pass with carrot and cucumber slices and celery wedges so guests can spread the vegetables with th cheese mix ture.

Richard Lanzen, also Moline, this coming week end. of RETURN FROM NORTHERN VACATION Mrs. Frank Modetz and son, Frank Quentin, have returned to their home at 905 North Eleventh street, Herrin, after spending a combined business and vacation trip with her husband who is at present attending school In Chicago. Mrs. Modetz and son will Join Mr.

Modetz Sept. 8. They will make their home in EuaClair, where Mr. Modetz has employment as a wage and hour investigator. The Modetzs spent part of their vacation sight seeing in Canada and then went down on the range to Minnesota where they visited Mr.

Modetz's parents, Mr. and Mrs. John Modetz, in Aurora. Before leaving the state of Minnesota they visited In Minneapolis with Mr. Modetz's brother-in-law and sister, Mr.

and Mrs. George Richmond and their children. While in Minneapolis, the vacationers attended an Eagles convention. Mr. Modetz is past president of the Herrin Eagles.

They then motored to Chicago where they were guests of Mr. Modetzs brother and sister-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Ed Modetz and their daughter, Betty. Mrs.

THE FRANK LOCKWOODS ENTERTAIN Mr. and Mrs. John Barr have returned to their home in Oklahoma City, after spending the week end at the home of their cousins, Mr. and Mrs. Frank Lock-wood, 1516 West Cherry itreet, Herrin.

Last week's guests of the Lock-woods were their friends, Mr. and Mrs. Quay Smith and their daughter, Susann, of Utica, Mich. This week Mr. LocJavood Is transacting business in Springfield.

He is supervisor of parolees in this district. He will also attend the Springfield state fair on Gov ernor's day, Thursday, Aug. 17. TO PARIS, TENNESSEE Jo Ann Humphreys returned to Paris, today after visiting since Monday with her parents, Mr. and Mrs.

L. P. Humphreys in Her rin. Jo Ann, who had been visiting in Paris the past month with rel atives, will be a senior student at HTHS this fall. She was accompanied to Herrin and back to Paris by her grand father, J.

On Monday, they attended the music festival of the Municipal Opera in St. Louis. It's a Good Time For Banana Cream Pie By The Chef How about a nice banna cream pie for dessert, if you haven't had! one in a dog's age? Take of a cup of sugar and combine it with 3 tablespoons of cornstarch and a little salt. Add 12 cups of milk; let all cook in a double boiler until thickened. Beat the yolks of 2 eggs, and edd 2 cup of milk, odd this very slowly to the custard and cook for 2 minutes more.

Remove from heat and add a tablespoon of butter and a teaspoon of vanilla. Put a cupful of sliced bananas in the bottom of a bked pie shell, edd the cream filling, and cover thet with meringue.
