JOINT 4-H CLUBS HOLDS PICNIC IN HERRIN A joint meeting of the 4-H clubs, the Straight Arrow and the Twinkle Toes, was held In the Herrin city park where the members brought picnic lunches. It was held Monday, Aug 7.

The Twinkle Toes exhibited their clothing projects at the county exhibition Friday, Aug. 4. The annual county show was held in the Marion Township high school. Members of this 4-H club Is composed of young girls from Herrin and Carterville. HERRIN GIRL HONORED The home of Mr.

and Mrs. Joe DeSett, 213 West Tyler, street, Herrin, was the scene of a birthday party Tuesday evening given for their daughter, Alma June DeSett. Alma was 15 years old. Twelve of her relatives and girl friends were present. HERRIN COlirLE TO ATTEND WEDDING Mr.

and Mrs. William Schweg-man, 212 South Nineteenth street, Herrin, left this morning for Decatur. They will be present at the wedding ceremony of their daughter, Miss Billie Rose Schwegman, which will take place this evening. The Schwegmans will return to Herrin Saturday. and Mrs. Caswell Peebles and their daughter, Janis Lynn, of Urbana will spend the week end in Herrin and Pittsburg visiting with their parents and other relatives and friends. In Herrin, the Peebles will be the guests of Mrs. Peebles' parents, Mr. and Mrs.

Harry Cal-caterra and family, North Twelfth street. They will also spend some time in Pittsburg, Mr. Peebles' home town, visiting with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Dewey Peebles.

R. L. Geschwend, Belleville, formerly of Murphysboro, returned last week-end from a va-cation trip to the West. While in California, they visited Mr. and Mrs.

Venegoni's son and Norma Jean Nausley, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. R. A. Nausley, 1911 Minton street, Murphysboro, returned home Wednesday evening, Aug.

9, from Hartford Conn. Miss Nausley has been In training for six weeks as a Methodist missionary to Cuba. She vill leave for Cuba about Sept. 1. En route to Murphysboro, Miss Nausley visited a United Rations session at Lake Success.

HAVE PICNIC AT RIVERSIDE Members of the Electa and Ruth chapter of the Order of the Eastern Star, Murphysboro, will have a picnic Sunday, Aug. 13, at Riverside park. Dinner will be served at 6 p. m. at the pavilion.

Murphysboro ICE CREAM SOCIAL CHICKEN FRY at MT. CALVARY LUTHERAN CHURCH De Soto, 111. August 12 Serving Time 6:00 Plans were completed Thursday night for a festival to be sponsor ed by the Epsilon Tau chapter of Eeta Sigma Phi sorority in Car bondale. The festival will be held Friday, August 25, in the Illinois Central park and parking lot. Funds from the festival will ben exit the chapter's philanthropic project for the year.

This year's project has not been announced Features of the festival, which will begin at 6:30 p.m., are square dance on the I. C. parking lot, concession stands, games and a Dutch auction. Mrs. Wayne Ellis, chairman of the chapter ways and means com mittee, is in charge of the festi val.

LAWSOX TWINS VACATION IN ARIZONA Misses Jean and Joan Lawson twin daughters of Dr. and Mrs Douglas E. Law-son, 60S West Col lege street, Carbondale, are vacationing in Mesa, with their grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Ear Baumgartner.

Next week, they will celebrate their 17th birthdays In Mexico where they will spend a week. They will return around Sep tember 1. Dr. Lawson is dean cf the Col lege of Education at Southern Illinois university. WILL STEND MONTH IN GUATEMALA Miss Jean Stehr.

T1S South University, and Miss Maxine Vcgely left Thursday afternoon for New Orleans, La. From New Orleans they will fly to Guatemala for a month's vacation. They plan to return to Carbondale around September 1. Miss Stehr is an instructor in Physical Education department at Southern Illinois university. Miss Vcgely is director of Anthony Hall, woman's dormatory on the campus.

PTLES LEAVE FOR WEEK'S VACATION Mr. and Mrs. H. J. Pyle and their sons, Richard Lee, 14, and Howard Eugene, 10, left Thursday for a week's vacation in Decatur and Chicago.

DI GIOVANNIS LEAVE FOR EASTERN VACATION Mrs. Alice Di Giovanni and her daughter, Alice Claire, 415 West Jackson street, Carbondale, have left for Long Island, New York, where they will visit relatives of the late Mr. Di Giovanni. They will spend the greater part of their acation at Mrs. Di Giovanni's cottage at Ocean Beach, Fire Island.

They will also visit friends in New York City. Mrs. Di Giovanni is administrative executive to the Southern Illinois university board cf directors. PATTERSON'S GUESTS RETURN TO CALIFORNIA Mr. and Mrs.

John Coleman who have been guests of Mr. and Mrs. J. A. Patterson, 415 West Jackson street, Carbondale, have returned to their home in Los Angeles, Calif.
