Bratton Retired from Hoechst Fibers Mary Boone Bratton, 77, of 615 Beech died Wednesday, Sept. 1, 2004, in Spartanburg Regional Medical Center. A native of Cherokee County, she was the widow of Clyde Eugene Bratton and daughter of the late Fred Taylor and Lela Isler Owensby. She was a member of Kirby Memorial Baptist Church and was retired from Hoechst Fibers.

Surviving are a daughter, Jean Bratton of the home; a brother, Bill Taylor of Kings Mountain; a sister, Eula Mae Porter of Blacksburg, and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband and parents, Mrs. Bratton was preceded in death by brothers, Paul Taylor and Oliver Taylor, an infant brother; and sisters, Estell Ray and Roberta Taylor Wisher. Services will be held today at 11 a.m. at Elm Street Church of God, conducted by the Revs.

Stephen Anderson and James Garner. Burial will be in Mountain View Cemetery in Blacksburg. Pallbearers will be John Bish, Michael Bish, Charles Stacy, Doug Wisher, Jimmy Spurlin and Gregory Woodham. Memorials may be made to Elm Street Church of God Building Fund, 200 Elm Gaffney, S.C. 29340.

Arrangements by White Columns of Blacksburg. Bessie M. Strickland Lenoir, N.C., native SMYRNA Bessie Louise Matlock Strickland, 64, of 315 Nimitz Road, died Wednesday, Sept. 1, 2004, in Piedmont Medical Center, Rock Hill. A native of Lenoir, N.C., she was the wife of the Rev.

Louis Strickland and daughter of the late Conley Otis Matlock Sr. and the late Juanita Louise Littie Matlock. She was a member of Lighthouse Baptist Church and a homemaker Surviving in addition to her husband are three sons, Tony Louis Strickland of Clover, Keith Bryan Strickland of York and Phillin Daniel Strickland of ghter, Nita Crawford of a brother, Rev. Conley Matlock Jr. of Morganton; a sister, Teresa Mae Smith of Taylorsville, N.C.: and five grandchildren.

In addition to her parents, Mrs. Strickland was preceded in death by two brothers, Steve Matlock and Larry Matlock. Services will be held Saturday at 11 a.m. at Lighthouse Baptist Church, conducted by the Revs. Grady Gregory and Conley Matlock Jr.

Burial will be in the church cemetery. Body will be placed in the church at 10:30 a.m. Pallbearers will be Michael Strickland, Bryan Heidenreich, Joe Hickson, Mike Smith, Jamie Hamrick, Gene Neal and Bobby Yarbough. The family will receive friends tonight from at Gordon Mortuary and at other times they will be at the residence. Memorials be made to Rev.

Davis 68, husband of Shirley Blackmon Davis, died Monday, Aug. 30, 2004, in Lancaster. Son of the late James Davis and the late Rosa Peeler Davis, he was a native of Gaffney and graduate of Granard High School. He was a retired teacher from Lancaster County Public Schools and was a reserve officer with the Lancaster County Sheriff's Department. He was a U.S.

Army veteran. Surviving in addition to his wife are two sons, Freddie L. Davis Jr. of Gaffney and Michael T. Davis of Lancaster; and two sisters, Annette DavisMoss of Columbia and Mary Littlejohn of Gaffney.

Services will be held Saturday at 1 p.m. at Lancaster High School Auditorium. Viewing will be today from p.m. at Crawford Funeral Home in Lancaster and on Saturday one hour prior to the funeral at Lancaster High School Auditorum. Burial will be in Pleasant Grove Baptist Church Ceme- tery in Lancaster.

Arrangements by Crawford Funeral Home. Martha H. Upchurch Secretary for Milliken Co. Martha Harris Upchurch, 65, of 220 Trenton Road, died Thursday, Sept. 2, 2004, at her residence.

A native of Gaffney, she was the wife of Guy L. Upchurch and daughter of the late Willie G. Harris and the late Gladys Bailey Harris. She was a secretary for Milliken Company where she was employed for 46 years. She was the first Hall of Fame member of the Women's Bowling Association and was a member of First Baptist Church where she was a member of the Lawrence Childers Sunday School Class.

The family wishes to thank Dr. Alfred T. Ezman and Hospice Care of S.C. for their compassionate care and assistance. Surviving in addition to her husband are a daughter and son-in-law, Myra U.

and Timothy Westbrooks of Gaffney; and a brother, Ralph Wayne Harris of Gaffney. Services will be held Saturday at 4 p.m. at ShufordHatcher Chapel. Burial will be in Frederick Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends tonight from 6-8 at the funeral home and at other times they will be at the residence.

Helen Knox Retired food services supervisor BLACKSBURG Helen Knox, 72, of 106 Brugg died Thursday, Sept. 2, 2004, at her home. Born in Cherokee County, she was a daughter of the late Thomas and Helena Goode Knox and a member of the Divine True Holiness Church of God where she served as a Sunday School teacher. She was a retired food: services supervisor at a hospital in Baltimore, Md. Surviving are several cousins.

The family is at the home of William and Betty Lockhart, 203 Whitaker Blacksburg. Arrangements are incomplete. The Gilmore Mortuary is in charge. Bessie L. Poole Gaffney native Bessie Lowery Poole, 62, formerly of Huntington Square Apartments, died Thursday, Sept.

2, 2004, at Valley Falls Terrace, Spartanburg. A native of Gaffney, she was the daughter of the late Walter Lee Lowery and the late Lethea Ethel Sue Eva Lawter Lowery. She was a member of High Point Baptist Church and former wife of Bobby G. Poole. Surviving are a daughter, Debbie P.

Guimont of Gaffney; two sons, Bobby W. Poole of Gaffney and Rocky L. Poole of Spartanburg; five grandchildren; brother, Roy Lowery of Forest City, The family is at the home of her daughter at 106 Bessie's Road, Gaffney. Arrangements are incomplete. Shuford-Hatcher Funeral Home is in charge.

Patterson Homemaker Irene Whelchel Patterson, 86, of 590 Old Post Road, died Wednesday, Sept. 1, 2004. in Mary Black Memorial Hospital. A native of Gaffney, she was the widow of Mason Patterson and daughter of the late Joseph Walton Whelchel and the late Carrie Elizabeth Spencer Whelchel. She was a homemaker and member of Midway Baptist Church.

Surviving are two daughters, Betty P. Roberson of Gaffney and Christine P. Harvey of West Columbia; two sons, Edward M. Patterson and Paul K. Patterson, both of Gaffney; eight grandchildren; eight greatgrandchildren; and two sisters, Polly W.

Clary of Cowpens and Lenora W. Blanton of Gaffney. In addition to her husband and parents, Mrs. Patterson was preceded in death by six brothers, Homer, Finley, Rhett, Harry, Eula and Joe S. Whelchel; and two sisters, Rachel W.

Jolly and Sarah W. Horn. Services will be held Satur- day at 2 p.m. at Midway Baptist Church. Burial will be in Frederick Memorial Gardens.

Body will be placed in the church at 1:30 p.m. Pallbearers will be William M. Harvey Amy P. Peeler, Emily P. Corbett, Bryan M.

Patterson, Dana H. Proctor, Ashley P. Head, Paul David Patterson, Betsy P. Roberson and Charles Blake Peeler. The family will receive friends at the residence today after 11 a.m.

Holland Boiling Springs, N.C., native Jennie Daniels Holland, 64, of 3107 Good Hope Temple Hills, M.1., died Wednesday, Sept. 1, 2004, in Georgetown University Hospital, Washington, D.C. Wife of Kenneth Holland, she was born in Boiling Springs, N.C., a daughter of the late Johnny and Marie Holmes Daniels. She formerly attended 1 Mikes Creek Baptist Church in Gaffney and was a member of Delaware Baptist Church in Washington and retired from the D.C. ment.

Also surviving are a son, Gregory Holland of Bowie, two daughters, Robin Sobotker of Maryland and Laura Holland of the home; three sisters, Annie Re Byers of Warrensburg, Viola Daniels of Statesville, N.C., and Evelyn Rhinehart of Hickory, N.C., five brothers, L.V.
