During the month of October 3,323 drivers' licenses were withdrawn for a variety of reasons. Greenville county led the state with 275 suspensions and Close behind Greenville was Richland County with 273. Spartanburg had 236 withdrawals. Other counties scaled downward with the number of withdrawals to a Jow of 5 in Saluda County.

Every county had some withdrawals. Failure to comply with the safety responsibility law continued as the chief reason for license withdrawal, with 5,188 cases. Second was driving under the influence of intoxicants, with 1,993 cases. The system caught 1,263 drivers, while reckless driving brought about 349. Totals for the year through October showed 14,213 license withdrawals.

There were 6,634 instances of failure to meet the safety responsibility law requirements and 2,664 of driving under the influence of intoxicants. A breakdown by ages shows that the largest group (6,148) was composed of persons age 17-29. Second highest (3,077) was 40 and older. Youngsters (14-16) were involved in only 1,348 cases. Acting Postmaster James C. Parris today urged all residents of the Gaffney area to make a concerted effort to the five digit number in both the address and the re-'turn address. "We expect a record-breaking mail volume this Christmas 'and will need all the help we can get," Postmaster Parris said.
