Survivors include a son, Mike Eaker of Blacksburg; a daughter, Pat Norman of Clover; a brother, Horace Sutton of Cherokee Falls; a sister, Moree Upchurch of Gaffney; and three grandchildren. Services were held at 2 p.m. today in Cherokee Falls Baptist Church conducted by the Rev.

Julie Jensen BLACKSBURG Julie Anne Gieseking Jensen, 35, of 525 Huffman Road, Blacksburg, died Sunday, April 14, 1991, at DIXON SPEAKS University of South Carolina Athletic Director King Dixon is shown last Thursday speaking to the top 90 scholastic students at Cherokee County secondary schools.

The Blacksburg and Gaffney Rotary clubs annually honor the top 10 academic students at each secondary school in grades 9 through 12. The awards ceremony was held this year at Blacksburg High School. A native of Cherokee County, she was the daughter of the late Mack and Genie Taylor Allison and the widow of Herbert McDaniel. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Spindale and a seamstress. Survivors include three sons, Hugh McDaniel of Spindale, Elmer Joe McDaniel of Nashville, Tenn. and Yates McDaniel of Port Orchard, a daughter, Geraldine Wall of Gaffney; a brother, Blaine Allison of Shelby; a sister, Esther Atkinson of Gaffney; 15 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren and five great-great-grandchildren. Services were held at 2 p.m.

In an attempt to reduce that number on a local level, Kydd organized an advisory board that will address the problem in Cherokee County. The organizational meeting, which includes representatives from various community agencies, will be held at 4:30 p.m. In order to involve the entire community in the project, Kydd has started a contest asking people to come up with a name for the program. Prizes will be awarded to the winner. Other donations, such as gardening tools and supplies are being requested.

Staff Writer PERRICONE A special meeting will be held today in the Cherokee County Chamber of Commerce to kick off a garden program that is aimed at helping people in the community who are at risk of hunger.

Alice Kydd, who is spearheading the program, is starting a garden project that will give local families at risk of hunger the opportunity to grow their own food on donated land. Homeowners who participate in the program will donate a parcel of land for a garden to a family identified as at risk of hunger. With the help of Clemson Extension Agency, the family will learn how to plant a garden and can the vegetables for the winter.
