OBITUARIES Nathan Deaton SPARTANBURG Nathan Baxter Deaton, 84, formerly of 2321 Goldmine died Sunday, Dec. 5, 1999, in White Oak Manor. A native of Spartanburg County, he was the widower of Maggie Opal Harvey Deaton and son of the late Clyde Vernon and Ida Crocker Deaton. He was retired from Firestone Steel a veteran of the U.S.

Army, attended Bethesda Baptist Church and was of the Methodist faith. Survivors include three daughters, Carol Ann Riddle of Gaffney, Lula Bell Scruggs of Chesnee, Ida Bell Keller of Spartanburg; two sons, Maxie N. Deaton and David E. both of Spartanburg; one brother, Roy Deaton of Spartanburg; four sisters, Reba Rothrock, Mary Gilmer, Alice Deaton and Henrietta Brown, all of Spartanburg; seven grandchildren; and six great -grandchildren. Services will be held today at 2 p.m.

at Bethesda Baptist Church with the Revs. Larry Holland and David Duncan officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. The family the residence of a son, Maxie Deaton, 2321 Goldmine Rd. Floyd's Pacolet Chapel is in charge.

Charles Love BLACKSBURG Charles Henry Love, 96, of 308 W. Cherokee died Monday, Dec. 6, 1999, at Upstate Carolina Medical Center. dA native of Kings Creek, he was the husband of Margaret Barber Love and son of. the late Alexander William and Sally McKown Love.

He was a member of St. Johns United Methodist Church, a retired owner and operator of Love Insurance Agency for 60 years, member of Buffalo Lodge for 75 years where he was a past Master. He taught Sunday School for 38 years and was a former superintendent of Sunday School. He was a graduate of Wofford College in 1923 and retired from the U.S. Postal Service after 39 years.

He started and was president of the Blacksburg Chamber of Commerce. He was secretary and treasurer at the church for 25 years. Also surviving are one daughter, Elizabeth L. Flynn of the home; one son, Dr. Charles W.

Love of McColl; pine grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren. Services will be held today at 3 p.m. at St. Johns United Methodist Church with the Revs. Joe Brown and Roger Linder officiating.

Burial will be in Mountain View Cemetery. Body will be placed in the church at 2:30 p.m. Pallbearers will be the grandsons. The family is at the residence. Memorials may be made to Meals on Wheels, 403 W.

29702. Gordon Mortuary, Blacksburg, is in charge. Carl Whelchel Carl Daniel Whelchel, 53, of Campobello, died Saturday, Dec. 4, 1999, at Spartanburg Regional Medical Center. A native of Gaffney, he was the son of Elizabeth Whelchel and the late Carl Whelchel.

Also surviving are one daughter, Tina Whelchel Cooper of Spartanburg; one son, Danny Whelchel Jr. of Pacolet; five sisters, Shirley Wyatt, Maggie Thomas and Betty Phillips, all of Gaffney, Peggy Henson of York and Vickie Millwood of Campobello; two brothers, Gerald Whelchel of Gaffney and Kenneth Whelchel of Bostic, N.C.; and four grandchildren. The family is at the residence of Maggie Thomas, 192 Speedway Gaffney. Arrangements are incomplete. Jimmy Clark COLUMBIA Jimmy Avon Clark, 55, of Columbia, died Sunday, Dec.

5, 1999, in Providence Hospital. A native of Gaffney, he was preceded in death by his adoptive parents from age two, Mary Madeline Morris Clark Carroll and John Bradley Clark of Denmark, S.C., and his birthparents, Robert Calvert and Mable Martin of Gaffney. He was an avid scholar with a love of music, gardening, history and genealogy. He was the assistant cashier for the South Carolina Department of Highways and Public Transportation for 24 years. He was a member of the Sons of Confederate Veterans and was a missionary for two years in Southern Brazil where he met his wife.

Survivors include his wife, Rosa Licht Clark; and two sons, Christopher James Clark and Britton Edward Clark, both of Columbia. Services will be held today at 1 p.m. in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, Jackson Boulevard, with burial at 4 p.m. in Denmark Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the charity of one's choice.

A native of Spartanburg County, he was the husband of Barbara Bishop McDonald of the home and son of the late Joe McDonald and Ethel Barnette Henderson. He was a member, former deacon and Sunday School teacher at Apalache Baptist Church and a retired employee of Tietex International. He was an U.S.. Army veteran. Also surviving are one son, Jeff McDonald of Greer; three brothers, Dean McDonald of Gaffney, Ray McDonald of Summerville, and Grady McDonald of Spartanburg; one sister, Joyce Walter of Inman; and one grandchild.

Services will be held Thursday at 2 p.m. at Apalache Baptist Church with the Revs. Herschel Crain, Virgil Smith and Henry Johnson officiating. Burial will be in Hillcrest Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be held tonight from at the Wood Mortuary.
