THE BAYTOW1N SUN Friday, June 21, 1985 1-B MENSION Reception will honor Dr. William Bridges Dr. William H. Bridges will be honored with a reception from 3:30 to 5:30 p.m. June 23 at The Medical and'Surgical Group of Baytown clinic, 1105 Decker Drive.

Friends and patients are invited to attend. During the past 50 years there have been a lot of changes in the field of medicine from heart transplants to vaccines against diseases that at one time killed entire populations. The most significant change in medicine, however, was the discovery of penicillin according to Dr. William H. Bridges, who is celebrating his 50th year in the practice of medicine this month.

"I was practicing before penicillin," he recalls. "I remember a person would cut his finger, develope a strep infection and die. There was nothing we could do about it." Born on Oct. 10, 1911 in St. Mary's Parish near the town of New Iberia, Dr.

Bridges grew up in Louisiana and studied medicine at Tulane University where he graduated June 16, 1935. After a two-year internship at Jefferson Davis Hospital in Houston, Dr. Bridges began his private practice in 1937 in Mont Belvieu at the request of Dr. A.R. Shearer.

The United States Army Air Corps claimed Dr. Bridges from 1942-1946 and he was stationed in Dodge City, Kan. most of those four years. Following his military stint, he returned to Baytown where he was in private practice until 1967. During that year he joined Dr.

BRIDGES McMurrey, Dr. John Nesselrode and Dr. Lynn P. Hodges to form The Medical and Surgical Group of Baytown, a multi-specialty clinic. His offices are still located there and he continues his practice of and family madicine just as vigorously today as he did 50 years ago.

Dr. Bridges has no intention of retiring anytime in the near future and will laughingly say he will practice medicine until he is too "tetched" in the head to continue. He and his wife of 49 years, Lenora, have two sons, William H. Bridges Jr. of Houston and Charles P.

Bridges of California. Dr. and Mrs. Bridges are members of Grace United Methodist Chruch and are active in various community endeavers. They make frequent trips to Colorado where Dr.

Bridges can be seen skiing down the slopes. Heirport ACEVES Pete and Cheryl Aceves of Baytown announce the birth of a daughter, Amanda Rochelle, on May 26 in Gulf Coast Hospital. She weighed 7 pounds and 1 ounce. She has three brothers, Jason, Joshua and Gabriel. Grandparents are Carlos Aceves Sr.

of San Antonio and George and Audrey MacFarlane of Hoffman Estates, 111. HAESSNER Thomas and Vicki Haessner of Baytown announce the birth of a daughter, Randi Nicole, on June 4 in Gulf Coast Hospital, She weighed 7 pounds and ounces. Grandparents are Herman Shryock 'of Aurora, 111., Jeanie Shryock of Milliard, Ohio and Mr. and Mrs. R.W.

Haessher of Smoke Rise, N. J. YARD OF the Month for June selected by Pinehurst Garden Club is 10,030 Pinehurst, the yard of Mr. and Mrs. James Ricketson.

At the May 31 meeting, attorney Daniel DeMarris spoke to members about bankruptcy and answered questions from members whose clients are involved in filing bankruptcy. Beth Platt, committee chairman, announced the tentative dates for the chapter's next tax clinic. It will be held Feb. 7-8.

A picnic for Pasadena Chapter members was sponsored June 8 by the Houston Chapter. A scrapbook is being assembled. Geraldine Dittfurth, publicity chairman, reminded members to bring in newspaper clippings about chapter meetings for the scrapbook. The Pasadena chapter serves persons throughout East Harris County. Even ing Pilot Club The Evening Pilot Club of Baytown held its regular business meeting June 11 at the Community Building. Coordinators appointed by Dorothy Harrison, president, are Sandra Olney, internal affair division; Jessie Clark, project division; and Patsy Casey, outreach division. They presented their program of activities for 1985-86. The club budget was presented by Elaine Kirkland, treasurer, and was approved. Fay Powell was admitted to the club with a demit from Cleveland Pilot Club.

Ms. Harrison appointed Alma White historian; Elaine Kirkland, chaplain; Fay Powell, parliamentarian; and Jo Ann Kelley, Pilot International Foundation representative. Buenz of Baytown, has been named a Distinguished Student in the College of Business Administration of Texas University. She is a member of Alpha Gamma Delta Sorority and a 1982 graduate of Ross S.

Sterling High School. Sandra Hanson of Baytown received a bachelor's degree in education from Texas Tech University in Lubbock. Samuel Wootton of Baytown, received a bachelor's degree in petroleum from Texas Tech University in Lubbock. Julie Ann Eiland, Robert E. Lee High School graduate, was honored with a graduation tea on May 25 at the home of C.G.

Lindstrom in Channelview. She is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Guinn L. Eiland of Baytown.

Hostesses were Marilyn Welch, aunt of the honoree, and Connie Lindstrom, grandmother of the honoree. Forty-eight friends and relatives attended from Baytown, Channelview, Dayton, Houston, Pasadena "and Sugarland. The honoree received luggage and a mirrored jewelry box. She plans to attend Lee College to major in speech therapy. Roberta Anderson, graduate of Robert E.

Lee High School, was honored with a graduation party May 19 in the home of John and Barbara Graham. Co-hostesses were Ann Davis, Wanda Barker and Rita Greene. Maroon and white decorations were used throughout the home. A money tree and assorted gifts were presented to the honoree. Miss Anderson will attend Lee College summer classes and plans to attend San Jacinto Junior College in the fall to major in respiratory therapy.

She is the daughter of David and Brenda Brasher of Baytown. ILA THOMAS, Ross S. Sterling High School graduate, has been named a 1985 United States National award winner in speech and drama. She was nominated for the award by Joe Wheelis, theater arts teacher at the school. Her picture and biography will appear in the United States Achievement Academy Official Yearbook, published nationally.
