against the for mer owner of the right of way Redfield after Redfield refused to sell the property That condem nation suit was carried all the way to the state supreme court where the county finally won out in 1951 A While the county obtained the right of way and made it available to the Reno Bowl Recreation Asso ciation the orest Service set aside several hundred acres of its land for the ski development The Reno Bowl Association is a ribn profit organization which in cludes representatives of the coun ty government orest Service the cities of Reno and Sparks and vir tually all of the serv ice clubs The association holds use rights to the proposed resort property and will lease these rights to one or more concessionaires Although authorities on skiing are unanimous in the opinion that Slide Mountain offers terrain that could make Reno one of the na top skiing centers local in vestors have been slow to ante up the money to install the necessary facilities This is the reason for the advert tising in the Wall Street Journal in which investors are requested to geb in touch with the Reno Bowl Association Minimum needs for the first year of operation include a dual chair lift sanitary facilities warming huts and snow removal equipment It has been estimated these will cost about $200000 Because the road will not be built until next spring the resort itself cannot be in per formers in working clothes joined prop hands in putting up their own rigging But in dressing rooms dozens of trunks yielded a fairyland array of glittering gay colored cos tumes and brilliant Advertisement Seeks Outside Capital or New Resort Six burglaries of homes in Reno were reported to police as having occurred Monday and yesterday Stolen were cash amounting to $268 a quantity of jewelry and a gun The gun was recovered 'under rather unusual circumstances Mon day night At 10 pm Monday an unidenti fied man called at the Nevada Mili tary District headquarters 2700 Virginia St and insisted on ing a 45 caliber pistol The weapon he said belonged to whom want to get into Raymond Gun Authorities were notified imme diately of the incident and the gun was identified as the one stolen from Raymond resi dence 337 University Ave earlier the same day Entry to the Smith home was made by cutting a win dow screen police said It was be lieved the burglars were fright ened from the Monday by someone who availed himself of an extra key from building storageroom Taken were a wrist watch two diamond wedding rings and eight Carson City dollars Mr Champagne val ued the missing items at $143 Although the Wilson home" 221 Pueblo St was prowled by a stranger between 1 and 6 pm Monday nothing ap peared to have been taken from the premises Entry was made through an unlocked door urni ture was disarranged in the house reports said A piggy bank was broken open at the home of Maureen ox 113 Mt Rose St between 4:45 and 5:40 pm by someone who entered through an unlocked door The bank was broken open on a bed and about $8 in silver removed Pennies were left scattered on the bedspread as bring 1200 youngsters today and as many more will be brought in by bus It is a big annual event in the loot Among the most valuable things taken was a pine tree fashioned entirely from leaf gold The pre cious metal alone in the statuette is estimated at from $1000 to $2000 and the exquisite workman ship of the piece increases its value many times that amount The burglars apparently knew what they were doing as they chose the most valuable items in the museum Nearly all of the property Houston Texas gambler Jake reedman a state gambling license for a new lufcury resort hotel under con struction near Las Vegas The commission met for the first time under its new policy of admitting the press to all deliberations evem including voting upon applications which always in the past has been lone in behind closed doors Action upon the reedman appli cation highlighted the first session The commission will re sume its deliberations at 9 a to day Among the license applications to be acted upon is that of David Hich who is still seeking approval of a 25 per cent share of the Golden Hotel Bank Club casino There was some indication a delay in con sideration of the long standing re quest might be sought New Jersey Tie Up In acting upon ap plication the commission explained the license was being denied not be cause of background as a Texas gambler and nationally known race horse operator but be cause of his relationship with Mack Kufferman former New Jersey liquor operator
