REDDING 8 HAST A COUNTY CALIFORNIA MONDAY APRIL 15 1912 DECLINED A DRINK WILLIAMS NIGHTWATCHMAN IS IN VICTIM MAY DIE WILLIAMS April Dave Ryan a night watchman shot Todd a ranch hand through the neck in a saloon here last night Todd is still alive but it is thought that his wound may prove fatal Ryan had been drinking and invited Todd to have a drink with him Todd replied that he was particular who he drank with This angered Ryan who drew his gun and said Todd would have a drink with him It is believed that Ryan intended to put up a bluff but in his excitement the gun was fired and the bullet lodged in neck Ryan was placed under arrest and a charge will be placed against him as soon as the consequences of the shooting can be determined A Head of Manton is in Redding today a witness
