convicted gambler Elmer (Bones) Remmer be reconsidered Remmer was convicted in Car son City Nev in 1951 of evading $38000 in income taxes sentenced to five years and fined $20000 He has been free on bail ever since pending appeal Leslie Gillen and John Golden Remitter's attorneys in an appeal to the Supreme Court attacked the policy of the Internal Revenue Service and stressed a trial in which a juror was approached by a gambling casino dealer who marked that Remmer had of Thought ederal District Judge Louis Goodman subsequently ruled that the incident was but the Supreme Court memorandum drected the Circuit Court to con sider not only the challenge but also the approach to the juror The Supreme Court memoran dum said that Justice (Hugo) Black would reverse the judgment of conviction mileage was 985 (Rychetnik photo) Tax Commission Wants To Hear Story LAS VEGAS Jan 22 (UR) Tax Commission Secretary Rob bins Cahill demanded today that George Sadlo a close friend of Marion Hicks appear to give the agency sworn testimony con ceming his financial dealings with Hicks president of the Thunderbird Hotel The commission is conducting a series of hearings preparatory to a formal session at which the licensees will be required to show cause why their state gambling license should mot be revoked on grounds undisclosed interests existed in the Thunder bird casino The commission is particularly interested in various loans made to Hicks by Sadlo one time asso ciate of underworld figures Meyer and Jake Lansky In testimony before the com mission last October 28 Hicks said he had repaid a $160000 loan made to him by Sadlo in 1947 by a personal check dated October 11954 Hicks produced the cancelled check which showed it had been cashed by Sadlo at El Paso Texas on November 10 Hicks assured Cahill he will try to persuade Sadlo to appear before the commission but said the latter was as a He offered to obtain an affidavit from Sadlo concerning financial transactions between the two but Cahill said this would not be satisfactory An offer by Hicks to take the commission staff to interview Sadlo Who he said might be at the Mayo Clinic at Rochester Minn at his own expense was also rejected Lee Deer credit manager of the Thunderbird casino testified he loaned Hicks $110000 in 1947 and that the latter had been pay ing him interest on the loan since that time SHOOTS Canyon late Tuesday to recover the bodies of Amos Geist 76 of Keddie Plumas county and his friend Lester White 70 who lived near here the dog stood with' her forefeet on chest and defied the officers The deputies had to throw stones and frighten away the dog to remove the bodies Stood Guard They said the little pet appar ently had stood guard over body since the week be fore Chirstmas the approximate time when 1941 model automobile plunged off the ther River Highway and 400 feet down the canyon killing the men instantly body was unmolested but Gillick and Parker reported that of White had been gnawed by animals The bodies were found by Percy Mix of Oroville who let his own dog out of his automo bile while driving here from Quincy' Plumas county Barks Brought Discovery Mix told the officers he heard a dog barking and whining down the canyonside while he waited for his own pet to return and climbed down thinking perhaps a dog had been caught in a trap When he saw the bodies and the determination not to let him approach he called the office The mongrel after the depu ties removed the bodies of Geist and White became friendly with the officers and is being given a temporary home in of fice The sheriff said he will try to find it a permanent home The disappearance of Geist and White was not reported to the office because the elderly pensioners had no rela tives or close friends Lander Rodeo Set for April Nye new commission ers approved a wage increase for nurses and aidls employed at the county hospital Each of the five practical nurses employed there will re ceive an additional $15 monthly Their present salaries range from $16350 to $204 a month depending on length of service The seven aides now re ceiving from $126 to $181 a month will each receive a $10
