George W. Wilson, committee chalranar, said abandonment of the runway as asked by the Air Force will create an additional hazard to air navigation. John W. Gerrity, principal Airport Runway To Be Closed The Pennsylvania Aeronautics Commission has approved abandonment of runway at the Wyoming Valley Airport, Forty Fort, to allow erection of a $250,000 Air Force Reserve Training Center. Closing of the runway was asked by the First Air Force, with headquarters at Mitchell Field, L. N. so that there would be no interference with construction of the building. The request to close was sent to the commission by the Luzerne County Commissioners.

John W. MacFarlane, executive director of the PAC, granted permission to close the northwest southeast runway, in view of the tact that it is seldom used and has never fully developed. Lackawanna County interests made determined bid to get the Reserve Center located at the Scran-ton Wilkes-Barre Airport in Avoca.
