HAFT- POPULATION OF THE UNITED STATES. From a table issued from the Census Bureau at Washington, we learu that the population of the United States is as folJows Free population, 27,612,624 number of slaves, The ration of representation tor a member of Congress is 127,216. The Jollowing table, giving the population by States, with the number of members of Congiess to which each is entitled, as officially determined, will prove interesting to the reauer Free Slave 37th States. Population. Fop.

Cong Maine, 619,958 5 New Hampshire, 326,072 Vermont, 315,827 3 Massachusetts, 1,231,494 10 Rhode Island, 174,621 1 Connecticut, 460,670 4 New York, 3,851,563 30 Pennsylvania, 2,916,018 23 New Jersey, 676,034 6 Delaware, 110,548 1,805 1 Maryland, 646,183 85,382 6 Virginia, 1,097,373 495,826 11 North Carolina, 679,965 328,377 7 Sonth Carolina, 308,186 407,135 4 Georgia, 615,336 467,400 7 Florida, 81,835 63,846 1 Alabapia, 520,444 435,473 6 Mississippi, 407,051 479,607 5 Louisiana, 354,245 312,186 4 -Arkansas, 331,710 109,005 3 Texas, 415,999 184,956 4 Tennessee, 859,628 237.112 8 Kentucky, 920,077 225,490 8 Ohio, 2,377,917 19 Indiana, 1,350,802 11 Illinois, 1,691,233 13 Missouri, 1,085,695 115,619 9 Michigan, 754,291 6 Wisconsin, 768,485 6 Iowa, 682,002 6 Minnesota, 172,793 1 Oregon, 52,556 1 California, 384,770 3 Kansas, 143.645 1 Total population, 27,482,924 3,999,353 234 roruLATios or TOE territories. 28,893 New Mexico, 93,024 Utah, 60,000 Dakotah, 4,839 Washington, 11,624 District of Columbia, 75,321 Total of Territories, 263,700 FECAPITCLATION. Total free population of all States and Terri- ritories of tho United States, 27,642,624 Slave population, 3,999,353 It will be seen on examination of the lore-going table, that Pennsylvania loses two members in its present representation, and that the free States gain six members, and tho Slave States consequently lose that number. In the electoral college of 1864 the North will cast 188 rotes 8gainst 114 by tho South. Should the next Presidential contest be conducted on the same issues as the last, it will be observed that the free States can eiect a President without the support ot either one of tho great leading States New York, Pennsylvania, or Ohio.

The united opposition of Pennsylvania, New Jersey and Oregon, to the other free States, would still leave the latter 153 one more than is requisite for a choice. The four leading States are North of Mason and Dixon's line, viz New York, Pennsylvania, Ohio and Illinois. Virginia and Indiana having each eleven members of Congress, rank next. South Carolina under the new apportionment will have four members of Congress, two than last year a rather small community to take upon itself "a seperate and distinct position among the nations of the earth." The Cotton States, which have pas-eed ordinances of secession, have only twenty-seven ol the two hundred and thirty-lour members who compose the National llousu of Representatives.
