and Mrs. Francis Davis, the latter being a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Smiles. The Smiles family have been well known residents of Pittston for a groat many years, and their many friends here regret very much their departure.

ATTEMPT MADE TO The police of Pittston are searching for a stranger, of whom they have secured a good description, who made an attempt to pass a raised $5111 on a bartender at the hotel of Charles Ru-daitis, 193 North Main street, yesterday afternoon. The bill of currency had been raised from $5 to 150 and, there not being change enough in the crsh drawer, the bartender left the room to have the bill changed. The stranger suspected that his scheme was detected when the bartender return'ed, he was gone. It was a short while later before it was discovered the bill was'ti $5 one which had been cleverly raiRed to G0. Sergeant Mc-Manif is conducting an investigation.
