ISSUE 54 SATURDAY, FEBRUARY 10, 1990 12 PAGES HOLLYWOOD star Jacqueline Bisset has revealed her secret anxiety she is terrified of becoming ill. Talking over tea and sandwiches at a plush Chelsea hotel, the beautiful 45- year-old explained that her worries stem from the ill-health that has plagued her mother for nearly 30 years and seeing her Scottish doctor father die from a brain tumour seven years ago. Dressed in eye-catching thigh-high beige boots, jeans and orange tunic Jacqueline. who stars as a fading soap queen in the new movie Scenes From The Class Struggle In Beverly Hills (which opens at Derby's Showcase Cinema this week), talked about her terror of ever becoming dependent on another person because of illness. new love and then proceeded to spill the beans about what she finds attractive about men and why she's never walked down the aisle.

"I never got married because it was always too complicated and I never wanted to." she added. "But I felt totally committed during those relationships though I was always wary of being taken for granted. "With all the best intentions in the world that can still happen in a relationship. "For instance I always feel tremendous guilt when I'm away working or over here. I can't do anything without 100 per cent commitment and sometimes being away has caused relationships to end." Even so Jacqueline admitted that she is fortunate that her ex-lovers have remained friendly and have never been tempted to 'kiss and 11 set, i stars as former sitcom queen Clare Lip- I kin in Scenes 4V From The Class i4 Struggle in Bev- 7 1 erly Hills, has A revealed she is terrified of 41 4,6 3s i 0 becoming ill.

But I wasn't scared of death after that. These days I'm not frightened of much apart from being sick. I would hate to be dependent because I have seen my mother suffer for so long." Jacqueline's plight is one with which many people separated from ageing parents will sympathise and it's one of the main reasons why she comes to London so often from her luxurious Mexicanstyle home in a canyon just outside Hollywood. Speaking in tones which veer between mid-Atlantic and her native Surrey, she spoke about the pressures of having a Cutting satire And she continued: "I've never thought it was dreadful when a relationship broke up. I believe that I have a rather more harmonious life than many people because I have so many friendships which have lasted." Certainly she's come a long way since she took the jet to Los Angeles in 1967 in search of fame.

Scores of movies later. her current film Scenes From The Class Struggle In Beverly Hills is a cutting satire of life among the wealthy and their servants in California. "1 was rather shocked when I saw the script but the level of humour was very funny," said Jacqueline. who will he seen next in the erotic thriller Wild Orchid with Mickey Rourke. "I'm here now partly to get someone reliable to look after my mother," she continued. "She needs someone with a sense of humour to care for her as she is a very giggly person. "She is a great deal better than when she first became ill and I think I'm lucky to have rediscovered what she was like before she got married. "There is a gaiety and laughter about her which she didn't have when we were children as she was always up to her eyes in anxiety.

Now she is a terribly challenging, amusing person in spite of her illness." During the same period Jacqueline has also been showing her caring nature by helping her brother through a painful divorce and befriending her eight-yearold half brother Nick, the product of her father's second marriage. "He's learning to swim because he knows I've got a pool she smiled. Her concern for her family has rarely attracted media attention since her arrival in Hollywood as a young hopeful 23 years ago but her love-life has always been a matter of public interest. That's not really surprising because this English rose has never married or had children but she has had seven year relationships with three very different men actor Michael Sarrazin. property developer Victor Drai and, most recently.
