Miss Lewis, who will initially be based at the Barony Hospital, Nantwich, the Group Headquarters, will eventually have charge of nursing services at South Cheshire's new £6 million district general hospital now being built at Leighton. Miss Lewis was Nursing Superintendent at St. Margaret's Hospital, Poona, from 1951 to 1959, and before taking her Chester post was Assistant Matron at St.

Thomas's Hospital, London, for three years. Her new appointment will take in hospitals In the Crewe, Nantwich, Sandbach, Wlnsford and Northwich areas, and she will have three Assistant Matrons. She was selected from a short list of two women and two men. Miss Lewis's is the first of several important appointments to be made within the South Cheshire Hospital Group. Next month a new Group Secretary is to be selected, following the forthcoming retirement of Mr.

Sandbach, on Tuesday last week, following raids on the town's Parish Church hall and cricket club. Roy Trueman (23), unemployed, of 41 Union-street, Sandbach; Keith Wheatley (17), of 62 Platt-avenue, Sandbach; and Kenneth Wilson (17), of 79 Platt-avenue, admitted stealing 30-lbs of lead from the roof of St. Mary's Parish Church hall, the property of the churchwardens, on June 29. The lead was worth 11 10s. They were each fined flO.

Inspector Vincent Armstrong said that someone reported seeing the lead being taken from the roof. When intercepted in the town, the three defendants were in a dirty condition. Questioned about the state they were in, they claimed they had been playing on the swings in the local park all afternoon. Later they admitted the offence. The two 17-year-olds and David Wilson (18), of 17 Unionstreet.

Sandbac pleaded "Guilty" to entering Sandbach Cricket Club between February 1 and 28 and stealing 24 bottles of brown ale (value fl 166). They were each fined O.
