A sufficient number of jurors not having answered to their names, additional ones were ordered, aid con sideiable delay occurred. She was finally placed at the bar, weeping (as she had been all the morning,) intensely, and evidently greatly alarmed at her situation. Messrs, James M. Smith, and Alfred A. Phillips ap? peared for the prosecution, and Messrs.

S. Jay Haskett and Wells for the defeuce. Mr. Alfred A. Phillips opened the case on behalf of tbe prosecution.

Several questions wer? asked the witness by Mr. Haskett, as to whether it would be possible for the wounds to have been by other than violence, kc which be replied generally in the Tbe child was fully developed. The Philadelphia papers have just discovered that the Northampton Bank has fallen into difficulties, although we have beeen tellin-i them of it for some time past We under stand that the embarrassments grew out of the fact tbat a person with whom some noles were lodged as collateral, in pursuance of arrangements to secure a debt of $120,000 doe the Bank by tbe Lubigh Coal Company, threw ihemicto the market for The friends of the Bank are endeavoring to sustain it under the storm, and we know that during the week $44,000 of its protested drafts which had been issued in accordance with a plan for resumption which had been adopted, have been retired, and others coming doe provided for. Many suits have been commenced against it on notes, but theB.nk is protected by an act of the Legislature which legalized its suspension for five years in consideration of a loan it made to the Stale. The State debt of Maryland, which is now $14,999,940, will be reduced by the act for selling ihe public works passed at the last session, if it can be carried into effect, to $3,289.910, from which tbe sinking fund being deducted, $1,179,276, the debt it reduced to $2,110,664, bearing an in? terest of $126,000 per annum. This amount Maryland can certainly easily provide for. Pennsylvania Fives are advancing in Philadelphia. 39 was freely offered. Money was very abundant, aiul trade better.

A letter from New-Orleans dated 16ih says The Com mercial Bank is liquidating her paper at about 25 per cent iiissount.
