Sierra FIELD and STREAM By RAY P. CORLETT District Supervisor Nevada Fish and Game Department Terrific Fishing Report Issued of Lake Toftoe Can't seem to understand rtiere the time goes. Here we ire right up against the edge Christmas. We know this is so because the old wallet is empty and the only jingle in the pants pocket is a ring of eys and an ancient pocket biife. Still it's a good time of year.

ft'e renew our faith in our fellow man and strangely enough, the stimulas we get at this time seems to be enough to sustain us for another year. The last was said with tongue in cheek because we, like all other humans and game wardens, especially friendly old game wardens, are human; so we tend to remember the rough times and the bad truth is, there are good and rewarding times and BO many good and honest sportsmen. Believe me, we, of the fish and game department, ap preciate you and it's a pleasure working with you. I don't know whether St. Nicholas had anything to do with it, but, we just received a report from Ted Frantz at Lake Tahoe, that fishing Is verging on terrific.

Last Saturday creel census at Cave Rock reported 13 top line anglers harvested 14 rainbows NBA ftouficfup guys. The so many running from of a pound tc 4 1 Sixteen anglers using deeplin techniques, netted 23 Mackinaw ranging from one-pound to pounds. Unfortunately the shon fishing wasn't very good. Nin anglers checked took no fish. For those of you that migh be interested, deepening re quires special tackle.

A heavy rod, large capacity reel and lots of weighted line, such as copper, monel or lead core. A large attractor or spoon is attached to the line and three or four-feet of heavy nylon or metal leader is tied on behind the hardware. A hook with a minnow or lure is tied to the end of the leader. This spinner and )ait arrangement is let out be- lind the boat and trolled within one or two-feet of the bottom. 24 Assists By dodgers Pace Chicago CHICAGO (UPI)-Tha Chicago Bulls, with Guy Rodgers making a league season high 24 assists rolled up a 22-point third-quarter lead and held on to eke out a 110-107 National Basketball Association win Wednesday night over the New York Knickerbockers.

The win ran the Bulls' victory streak to five games. Chicago Boozer KOI is Mullet- Mclmr Jodgri Sloan Wilson Ercksn Ward Wshgtn 2-2 Reno Jaycees Honor Trio For Leadership Three Reno athletic figures were selected last night to share the 1966 Reno Jaycees Physical Fitness Leadership Award. Named co-winners were Myra Mcue, women's phisical fitness director at Reno YMCA; Dick Dankworth, University of Nevada track and cross-country coach; and Bud Beasley, Reno Bfigh School athletic director. The trio will receive certificates next week and will be entered in the statewide leadership competition. 'Winner of that enter the nationals.

Also nominated for Reno award were Will Elder, AAU official; Rod Hill, Sparks gymnastics coach; Duke Drakulich Sparks George High Smith, School Qayton coach; Junior High School coach; George Ball and Hoyt Martin, Reno YMCA physical fitness leaders; Mike Thompson, Reno High Schod coach; lark Brown, girls track and field coach; and Spina, recently-retired Reno Recreation Department director. REBOUND BOSTON (UPI) Syracuse bounced back Wednesday night from its'first loss of the season by defeating Manhattan College, 99-87, in the consolation game of the Christmas College Basketball Tournament at Boston Garden. Takes Fine Touch That takes a fine touch because depths fished oi-dinarily run from 100 to 500-feet, Usual- macMnaw are taken by this method, although an occasional tourist rainbow is found at these depths. Toplining is the simple method for fishing. Here, a long Jght monofilament line is used and the rod and reel may be of either spinning or casting variety.

Trolling is usuaEy close shore, in the gravelly or rocky areas. An artificial lure is trolled behind the boat in wa- ordinarily 6 to 25-feet in depth. Rainbow trout is the species most often caught by this method, however, an occasional brown trout comes to the creel. At certain times of the year, winter and early spring, mackinaw move inshore and are quite often seen in the top- liner's bag. Perhaps we've been a bi1 rief, but, if you need more details, contact a game warden and get the complete scoop.

Classic Story? And now if we may, we'd like to present a classic fairy story (or is It seems ft was Christmas Eve and Saint Peter and the Devil met, as they sometimes do, at a quiet spot, midway between their separate jurisdic tions. CHARLESTON, W. Va. "We've nevei had any trouble like that in my district." "This Is easy to said St.

Peter, "you see, we'vi never received any game war dens up my way yet." All of us friendly old game wardens hope that when you settle down for your long winter's nap, that instead of visions of sugarplums, you will see tall mountains, sunny desserts, green forests, swift, running streams and beautiful lakes all abounding with game and fish.
