Kctcrfc State Journal Monday October 10 1966 THE WORD ROM WALL STREET Seminars Helds for Wall Street Executives By WILLIAM LALER UPI inancial Editor NEW YORK Only 50 miles from Wall Street lies something of a Shangri la for businessman It is called Arden House a magnificent edifice perched on a peak in theRamapo Moun tains near the small community of Harriman NY Arden House is the site of seminars conducted thrice yearly for leading Corporation executives by the graduate school of business of Columbia University Once the business group has wound its way up the tortuous paved road to the mountain top mansion that railroad tycoon EH Harriman completed in 1909 cares of the world below should be forgot Arden House was given to Co lumbia University in 1950 as a memorial to his parents by Averell Harriman the diplomat statesman brother Roland contributed funds to Co "lumbia 'to help maintain the beautiful structure and its grounds now known as the Har riman campus of Columbia Un iversity acilities include king sized bedrooms dining rooms confer ence rooms loungfes find a li brary Arden House is not an all fun no work place Executives attending" the seminars have more than enough to keep them busy Although their salaries are being paid by organizations sponsoring their attendance the executive seminarians must sep arate themselves from businesi responsibilities ull attendance also is re quired and companies who feel they may be forced to recall an executive during a session A are encouraged to defer their applications until such time as will not be con templated Seminars are designed for vet eran executives who are about to move into top managerial po sitions Cost for a six week ses sion is $2150 which includes tuition room and board and working Even though the seminars ar conducted under idyllic circum stances Safeguards are taken against Utopiah boredom end the weekly session at noon on riday and the s6m inarians are free to go to New York or wherever they wish to a director of the seminar said "They must return on Mon day morning At the end of the third week we recess the sem inar at noon on Thursday and participants may remain away until Tuesday morning This is enough time for executive to fly back to his home in Texas or California and get back in time for the next Hoke Simpson is director of executive programs for the Columbia University graduate school of business which is un der the over all supervision of Dean Courtney Brown Arabian Horse Show Notion's Top Tones Winners Announced UPI Song Survey 16 17 (or photo see Page 13) to of James But the PUBLIC NOTICE! sidering facilities needed for a junion senior high school cam us based on projected future enrollments in the grades 7 through 12 The board was presented with two sets of figures one of which would be ideal for the projected enrollment and another that would be a minimum needed After discussion the board told architect Arne Purhonen to draw up plans for the ideal situation The board noted that if the ideal situation did not fit within the funds allocated by the recent bond election then some adjust ments would have to be made on the facilities Under the ideal situation 27 new rooms would be acquired while in the minimum situation 22 new rooms would be made available Rooms available un der the ideal situation for the grades 7 3 would be 11 class rooms 3 Science clssrooms 1 science lab a library a music room an art room a special education room and remedial reading room or the grades 9 12 the ideal situation would provide three classrooms one combination science laboratory room one special education room a home ecnomics room and a typing room In other action the board sub mitted names of possible mem bers for a transportation com mittee which would be faced The names submitted by board were Roger Smith Ruby Vallfiy Charles Ballew Elko Sonny Wells Vernon Scott Carlin Bill Gibbs O'Neill Jim Wright North ork Warner Mitchell Jiggs Kaye Kimber Montello and La Nelle Barton Jackpot Superin tendent Zander was designated to contact the proposed commit tee members The merits and disadvantages of teacher involvement in poli tics will be discussed tonight at the Reno young and elderly have been included in this program One of her main areas of work has been with low income groups Her assignments have taken her to the Indian reservations of Duckwater and Goshute where she has demonstrated and taught dietary and other home skills She was instrumental in con ducting a survey on source and condition of domestic water on both reservations An effort was made by Calif Directors of the Eastern Plumas Commu nity Hospital Inc has approved a salary increase for registered nurses The increase is retroactive to Oct 1 It is based on a six step increase plan A $3 per day increase in room rates will be required to defray the additional operating costs that will result officials said Registered nurses will receive six increases to salaries' rang ing from $540 to $700 per month over a period of six years The increase is in line with salar ies in Reno and Quincy Eastern' Plumas Community Hospital Inc income is de rived from direct charges for in patient and out patient ser vices thefef' the money to pay for the increase must be obtained from room rate charges Based on payroll cost for 1966 and the estimated increase of nurses salaries for the next 12 months hospital administrator Harold Wright proposed a room rate increase as follows: ward to $26 semi private room to $28 and private $27 per day McAllister Named to State Hygiene Board i iM Nevada State Hospital Super intendent Dr Robert McAl lister assumes a dual role this week as a result of a reqent appointment by the Nevada Mental Hygiene Advisory Board McAllister was given the addi tional post of interim adminis trator of the Nevada pivision of Mental Hygiene in addition to the post he has held since June of this year The second state appointment for Dr McAllister was made by the board because dud role would help coordinate ad ministrative procedure not'bhly in the division but also at jthe hospital as McAllister is presently filling the post vacated by Dr Rich ard inner who
