Jan. 12 The Mountain District Committee of Potomac Council, Boy Scouts of America, held its first meeting of the year Thursday at Hill Street School. The following chairmen were appointed for the coming year: John Manley, leadership training; Kenneth Babcock, camping activities, and Walter Mackey, finance. were made for activities during National Scout Week.

School representatives were welcomed by the principal, John Fischer. There were three study groups conducted. Topics studied and discussed were: How to improve sportsmanship in all schools; The study of traffic control by the student forum; and Study of how a Student Congress may Improve public relations internally and externally in schools. A general discussion followed and students from each school reported on problems offered and studied by the entire group.

Students from Beall High who participated were Arnone, Twelfth Grade; Paul Thompson and Marleen Muir, Eleventh Grade; Betsy Bampton, Tenth Grade, and Susan Kidwell, Ninth Grade. John S. Phillips, Lonaconing, above, was honored with a dinner a recent evening by members of his family on the occasion of his 92nd birthday. A retired florist, he had been active in that business from 1906 to 1946, when he sold out to his grandson, Arthur G. Phillips. He is the father of Jour sons.

His wife, Mrs. Isabella (Ternent) Phillips, died in 1938. Rolary Club Hold a First Meet Of Year GRANTSVILLE, Jan. 12 The Grantsville Rotary Club recently held its first meeting of the year at the Arlington Hotel. Lynn Young was in charge of the program.
