40 and Highway 50 associations has adopted new stra tegy in the campaign to lure tour ists to communities along the two transcontinental highways Just as the two rival highway associations buried the hatchet and decided was good for one was good for both Overland West is no longer particularly concerned whether the tourists come west by automobile bus train or plane just so they visit the "middle coun This was disclosed yesterday by William Petherbridge manager of the Churchill County Chamber of Commerce and executive director of Overland West in a talk to the board of directors of the Reno of Petherbridge reported that the program for promot ing tourist travel has received en thusiastic response in California and Nevada and he said Overland West will operate actively as far east as Denver By expanding its program to in clude air lines and railroads he ex plained opportunities for Overland West to "tie with national ad vertising of transportation com panies have been greatly expanded Considerable literature is being distributed to travel agencies across the country as well as to automo bile clubs and to a wide variety of publications Petherbridge asked the local board of directors to assign one of its members to attend Overland West meetings and the response of the board was to name not one but six persons to participate two members each from the highway tourist and convention and adver tising and promotion committees The matter of the Reno of contributing financially to Over land West was referred to the fi nance committee for a recommen dation LITTLE GIRL DIES Mrs David and Young was requested in district court this week Counsel for Attorneys Peter Echeverria and Clifton Young filed a demurrer asking that the case be thrown out on the grounds there is not sufficient cause for action The damage suit was the after math of a divorce suit filed against Morgali by his wife Virginia who is represented by Echeverria and Young Morgali charged that the divorce bill was filed for the purpose of harrassing him in his campaign for the governor nomination and he ac cused the local law firm of resort ing to "extortion blackmail and to induce Mrs Morgali to launch the suit Representing Echeverria and Young are Russell MacDonald Robert McDonald Richard Blakey and the firm of McCarran and Wedge Grace Squires Dies in Oroville Mrs Grace ogg Squires mem ber of a pioneer Reno family died Monday at an Oroville Calif hos pital after being taken seriously ill while motoring with her family from Chico to Bucks Lake Mrs Squires was the daughter of the late William A ogg who for many years was county clerk for Washoe county She was born in Reno March 30 1883 and at tended the Reno schools and the University of Nevada ollowing her graduation she entered the county office as a deputy until her marriage to Charles Squires in 1904 Mr Squares was connected with the Nevada Pack ing Co for a number of years The family later moved to Cleve land Ohio and then to Oakland About ten years ago they moved to Chico to make their home Mrs Squires was a member of Nevada Rebekah Lodge No 7 of Reno She is survived by her husband Charles Squires of Chico and two daughters Mrs Carlson of Chico and Mrs Crawford of Carmel Calif A son the late Lt Charles Squires was killed in World War II A grandson Dale John Carlson of Chico also sur vives uneral services will had been residing with her daughter Mrs lorence Kehoe for the past few years She is survived by three daugh ters Mrs Alice Daisley of Mer ced cant Mrs Annie Dolliver of San Luis Obispo Calif and Mrs General Jesse Don aldson issue a Nevada stamp next year because it will be the centen nial of the first settlement of Genoa and Genoa was the first set tlement in Nevada In June of each year the Post Office Department is alloted money for issuance of up to 12 new stamps The Department has a Commemorative Stamp Commis sion which selects subjects for commemorative stamps and that body will meet in November to make their selections Already there are 55 subjects which have been brought to their attention and one of these is a stamp of Ne vada The Reno Stamp Club members are urging Nevadans and Nevada organizations to join them in send ing in their requests for a Nevada stamp next year They have got out a form letter which can be used to make this request and these may be obtained from Mrs Joe Greco secretary 1058 Uni versity Terrace Reno Mrs Greco says Nevada has nev er been honored with a commem orative stamp and she points out that if it were the state would gain a lot of recognition Thus far the local club has worked up a lot of interest in the project and have gained the support of Congressman Walter Baring It was the Reno Stamp Club which 'sponsored the issuance of a special cachet commemorating the last run of the railroad and the interest in that project far exceeded their expectations They hope that Nevada will now get be hind the larger project of getting a national PLANS OR YULETIDE PARADE MADE Committees Selected or Record Event On December 9 inal plans for the giant balloon Christmas parade were made yes terday afternoon when 'the Reno Retail Merchants Association met in the office of the 'organization and named the committees who will be called unonto see that the parade set for December 9 will be the biggest event of its kind staged in Reno It was announced' by rank Menante general chairman of the holiday parade that a name had been selected for the Christmas feature and that both the name arid the committees would be an nounced to the public as soon as all had been cleared with the membership Special features for the parade of giant balloons will be added and the "Christmas of the association decided to get the com plete details in shape to present Jo the public before the end of the week In the meantime it was decided that an extensive publicity cam paign that would embrace all com munities within 100 miles of Reno in every direction would be launched this week so that the three mile long parade of giant balloons might be witnessed by the largest number of people brought to Reno for a similar event It was decided at meeting that the stores would close three hours during the parade so that all the employes might enjoy the un usual sight Complete cooperation of everyone in Reno was assured the merchants and it was an nounced that a portion of the ex pense of financing the parade and of adding extra Christmas decora tions would be paid by the clubs and casinos and the wholesale dealers have likewise pledged their aid financially and in every other way to make the Christmas parade in Reno on December 9 the biggest event of its kind held in Nevada Passenger Hurt As Car Overturns Howard Chism was taken to Washoe emergency hospital early Monday morning for treatment of injuries received when the car in which he was riding overturned Chism who owned the 1941 ord sedan was seated beside Marshal Coulton who was driving The men were returning to Reno about 4 am whenCoulton fell asleep at the wheel The car went off the road at a sharp curve and over turned The Sparks ambulance took Chism to the hospital Both
