SUNDAY SEPTEMBER 10 1950 WASHOE COUNTY VOTERS I Greatly Appreciate Your Splendid Support in the Primary Election for District Attorney i GRANT BOWEN (Poi Advr 16 reedom Drive Chairmen Chosen Sixteen of the 17 county chairmen in Nevada have been named for the Crusade for reedom campaign and Churchill chairman will be named Monday to complete the statewide organization The first service club to endorse the Crusade for reedom nationally was the 20 30 club Concluding their convention at the Mapes Hotel in Reno with a luncheon yesterday afternoon this organization adopted a resolution the last paragraph of which reads: "Be it therefore resolved that the members of 20 30 International in convention here assembled assort their cooperation with the Crusades for reedom in order that all people may enjoy the dignity of the individual and the right of free dom and the privilege of resisting aggression and tjranny wherever they may The county chairmen thus far named are: Washoe Harvey Sewell Clark Paul Hammel Elko William bVright White Pine Charles TJmith Humbolt Ed Dyer Lin coln Sam Arentz Pershing Charles Jones Lander red Bal dini and Walter Collins co chair men Nye Esmeralda John Leary and William Crowell co chairmen Mineral rank Gra ham Ormsby Paul Laxalt and Miller co chairmen Lyon Pete abri Eureka red Gebo Douglas Art Suverkrup Storey Hugh Gallagher The mayors of all incorporated cities in the state have been made honorary city chairmen of the cam paaign Las Vegas In Las Vegas yesterday at a luncheon in the Trophy Room of the Last rontier there were 27 civic leaders present It was an nounced that the southern office of the campaign would be set up in the office of Paul Hammel Clark county chairmen and Jor dan Crouch state chairman ar ranged for the personnel of the office The treasurer of the south ern Nevada area is Harry Manette vice president of the irst Na akional Bank of Nevada and theLas Vegas branch of 'that bank was made depository for the funds collected in that area Among those at the luncheon in Las Vegas was Mrs A Black man state chairman of the Wo ederated Clubs who promised full cooperation on the part of the women of Nevada in this Crusade for reedom The meeting was arranged by McQuilkin managing director of the Las Vegas Chamber of Com merce and brought civic church veteran and labor leaders to gether in a common effort to aid in the defeat of a common foe In Elko The same enthusiasm was mani fested in Elko and Humbolt coun ties In the temporary absence of William Wright Elko county chairman Al Manhan president of the Elko Chamber of Commerce and city chairman of the Crusade for reedom promised a full slate of workers and named as the city committee the school superintend ents the presidents of the 19 women's organizations and the 13 jgnen's organizations in the cityjyooperation was pledged by the press and radio in the eastern Ne vada metropolis and the sur rounding area will be completely covered upon the return of Wil liam Wright to the city In Winnemucca Ed Dyer well known Humboldt County lumber dealer is the county chairman of Humboldt County He has named the presidents of all ser vice clubs the managers of the three leading hotels the two Pro testant and one Catholic pastors in Winnemucca and District Judge Brown on the city committee with the mayor of Winnemucca Harry Backus Stewart has been named rural chairman for Humboldt County He is a rancher in Paradise Valley Lander County Ray oote is the honorary chair man of Lander County red Bal dini in Battle Mountain and Wal ter Collins postmaster at Austin will art as co chairman rank Za dow president of the Lions Club will head the workers at Austin In Copper Canyon Mrs Elmer Snell president of the PTA there will head the drive for sighatures on the reedom Scroll and Ralph Hay den president of the Lions Club of Battle Mountain will take an ac rive part in the rural drive forMarries Uhrland and Buster TKing superintendent of the gram mar and high schools respectively will handle the schools in Battle Mountain and the areas adjacent to the community In Reno Morgan Angiim city chairman for Reno has named as head of the organizations in this areared Miller of the American Le gion and at the same time has an nounced that a committee of three members of labor organizations will be named Monday to conduct the campaign among the unions in Reno and vicinity In Sparks Joe Sbragia has on his general committee at the mo ment Lester Zahniser Slim AUTO AND BEER ARE ABANDONED i Odd Circumstances Investigated Police were yesterday investigat ing the abandonment of an auto mobile and a case of beer in Idle wild Park The car carrying a California license plate over which a Michigan plate had been hurriedly tacked was discovered in the park riday afternoon Papers in the vehicle named residents of Arkansas of ficers said The vehicle was con siderably damaged on the left front and had a flat tire Park attendants told authorities that two young men had fled from the park on foot early the same morning leaving a case of beer be hind them The case with only two cans of brew missing was aban doned in shrubbery not far from the vehicle Officers were checking both the car and the beer to see if they might be classed as stolen property Tanks Still Leak Despite Coolness In spite of the coolish weather firemen were called out again yes terday to take care of an automo bile leaking gasoline The leaker on Second St near Center was given the usual mop up treatment at 12 :28 pm ire men siphdned some excess gas from the vehicle tank and are now en route from the east The South Virginia Street branch of the irst National Bank has been made the depository for the funds collected in northern Nevada The commit tee chairmen all over the state working under the county chair men have notified state headquar ters that everything will be in readiness for the drive to start simultaneously in each county in the state when the supplies ar rive Governor Vail Pittman has indi cated that he will proclaim "Cru sade for reedom through out Nevada when the organization in each county has been perfected and the actual drive for signatures gets under On "Crusade for Sunday pastors of all churches in the state will be asked to preach on The Nevada National Guard and the Nevada Air National Guard were enlisted to aid in the cam paign when Morgan Angiim chair man of the Reno area named Lt Col red White and Major John Arant as head of committees to secure signatures from all mem bers of the Nevada National Guard Dr Wesley Hall president of the Nevada State Medical Associa tion has been named general chair man of the medics to secure their cooperation in this Crusade for reedom Monday Morgan Angiim will name the complete list of city
