Nevada State Journal riday June 12 1964 Missile Reporters Visit Nevada To Learn of Aerospace Activity STATELINE Nev The men and women who cover the rocket launchings at Cape Ken nedy were in Nevada Wednes day to learn about this role in the space pro gram Robert Warren state director of economic development briefed the science writers on space age activities at the Nevada Test Site Haw thorne and North Rocketdyne Division in Washoe County He issued a press kit describing activities of Aerojet General Corp Westinghouse the Lockheed Space and Missile Co all at Jackass lat Aero jet operations at Hawthorne and the rocket propellant plant at Lovelock a story describing activities of North American and Sandia Corp near Tono pah and other related concerns The press corps was on a three day tour sponsored by the Air orce of the West Coast aero space industries to see where and how the variety of components of the rockets launched at Cape Kennedy are made The newsmen toured aerospace complexes in Sacra mento and Los Angeles Tuesday and Wednesday including Gen eral Dynamics North American Aviation Douglas Aircraft and Aerojet General They arrive by bus from Sac ramento Wednesday afternoon for the press briefing and the dinner show at Tahoe They returned to Sacramento Thursday to disperse for their home offices On hand for the tour are: Capt Tom Seeberger Air orce George John Whiteside Air orce 4th Company In Protest On Carlson Sound of Music to Open Sacramento Music Circus SACRAMENTO Calif The Sacramento Music Circus will open its 14th season on Thurs day June 18 with Rodgers and Broadway hit The Sound of Music It played for nearly four years in New York City and the production rights were released to summer theaters only last spring It will be' tire first opportunity for northern California audiences tn see this last collaboration of Rodgers and Hammerstein Os car Kammerstein 2nd died in 1960 eight months after The Sound of Music opened The Sound of Music is a true story about the Austrian Trapp family which fled from Austria in 1938 as refugees from the Nazis The Trapp family was made up of seven children and their father Captain Georg von Trapp a widower Into their life came Maria Rainer who was hired to take care of the children Despite their resistance Maria taught the children to sing as a group and eventually the Captain gave in He fell in love with Maria and married her With their possessions confiscated by the Nazis the family came to America in 1939 and earned a living from singing Billed as The Trapp amily Singers they were famous on the concert stages of America during the early years of the war The show is sprinkled with songs typical of Rodgers and Hammerstein Among them are Maria the song the children sing Do Re Me Climb Every Mountain My avorite Things and the title song The Sound of Music will star Eileen Christy as Maria and Robert Rockwell as Cap tain von Trapp Miss Christy made her Music Circus debut last season as Daisy Mae in LIT Abner Rockwell who is known to television fans as Mr Boynton in the old Our Miss Brooks series first ap peared at Music Circus in 1958 in Wonderful Town Oth ers in the cast include opera singer Margery MacKay as the Mother Abbess Paul Jay son as Max Detweiler Joan Conrath as Liesl Stephen Mi chaels as Rolf Jim Myers as ranz and Betty Tesman as Elsa Schraeder The Sound of Music will play' 11 nights June 18 through 28 ollowing on June 29 will be lower Drum Song Paint Your Wagon on July 6 She Loves Me on July 13 The King and I on July 29 The Boys from Syra cuse on July 27 Stop the World I Want to Get Off on August 3 Kiss Me Kate on August 10 These shows will play seven nights each Monday through Sunday The last show My air Lady will play two weeks opening on August has ac cused Public Service Commis sioner Leslie Carlson with bias and asked to have him disquali fied in hearing a Southwest Gas Corp application Propane Sales and Service Inc of North Las Vegasl filed a motion with the PSC to dis qualify Carlson in hearing or deciding a Southwest Gas ap plication to serve Indian Springs Cactus Springs and Mercury The firm charged Carlson was biased in favor of South west Gas Propane Sales has filed as an intervenor In South application to serve the Mercury area Charles Cavanaugh direc tor of Pacific Delta Gas Inc parent firm of Propane Sales filed a statement with the PSC alleging Carlson was biased in favor of Southwest Cavanaugh said he saw Carlson May 7 at the entrance of the Sahara Hotel in Las Vegas with James Sand ers vice president of South west and a key witness in the application and the two men got into a car and drove away together Carlson was first charged with bias and prejudice when the PSC awarded the certifi cate of convenience and neces sity to Southwest to serve 16 northern Nevada communities The firm claimed CarlsOn ovvsd them money and as a re sult teas prejudiced against them and should have been dis qualified Later Yerington Propane Co Inc George Myers and Wal lace Black of Lovelock Gas Co and South Tahoe Gas Cb also filed suit seeking to vacate the PSC order granting Southwest lhe certificate in the northern Nevada communities charging Carlson with bias in favor of Southwest Library Plans Reading Program Registration for a summer reading program began Mon day at the Sparks Branch Li brary Children may register until June 16 irst and second graders should be accompanied py an adult The theme for the club this summer will be the Nevada Centennial Each club is required to read at least 15
