services were held Thurs day afternoon at the Roe and Kaiser chapel for Thomas Allen sixteen year old son of Mr and Mrs Herbert Allen of Haw thorne who died at his home Mon day night from a heart ailment or several months he had re ceived treatment at the Naval hos pital at Mare island Interment was in allon cemetery He was born ebruary 16 1926 at Washington He had at tended school at Norfolk Va in California allon and at Haw thorne where his parents have resided for the past year The Allen family came to allon about 1936 His father after twen ty eight years of active service in the navy retired in 1940 He re turned to active duty after war was declared and is stationed at the navy depot at Hawthorne Besides his parents are two sis ters Mrs Herberta Bigford and Mrs Josephine Thompson After a delayed open ing Lander County High School opened here on September 14 with approximately the same number enrolling as last year The late opening was due to a shortage of labor In this district and was effected to allow boys to fill jobs that were vacant because of war conditions In keeping with the war effort boys will be released three weeks earlier this school term than last year in Truckee Canyon TAHOE CITY Sept 17 (Spe cial) This week a forest fire was started by lightening on the mountain above Deer Park in the Truckee River Canyon Ranger Seikert was called to the scene and with assistants spent the afternoon and most of the night fighting the blaze Area of Brush CARSON CITY Sept 17 (Spe cial) The fire department was called out Tuesday evening for a brush and grass fire on the Prison road cast of the Nevada State Or Home No property dam age was done A considerable area of tall grass and weeds was burned over fire men said THE MEN IN OUR IGHTING ORCES EVERYONE CAN
