direction of Betty West Dave Weston and Gloria Oberg Mas ter of ceremonies is Robert An derson The cast is billed as carefully selected acting com pany of Ladies and Gentlemen whose pockets may be empty whose soles may be thin but whose hearts are in their A melodrama entitled tha the Beautiful will lead off an eve ning of shenanigans and it is said it takes place in the of the Aroma a small hotel in the village of Polecat Cente on a spring day many years ago accord ing to the synopsis A special feature of the eve presentations is the crowning of the Mineral County Centennial queen The identity of the queen is being kept a dark secret but it is announced that Kellison chairman of the Mineral County Centen nial Committee will conduct the ceremony Sixteen acts will be presented in a of the fatal shooting of William Tollus Green an infor mant for the ederal Bureau of Narcotics The court ordered the rec ords of the case be submitted to the high court for review be fore May 18 Additional briefs will be filed by both the de fendants and Clark County Dist Atty Marshall and oral arguments may be heard later At issue Is whether dark County should pay for a tran script of the first trial of the two men Warren Lonnell Harris and Vase Calvin Valrie ended in a hung jury Dist Judge William Compton ordered a transcript for Harris after the jury deadlock Both Harris and Valrie are indigent defendants have court ap pointed attorneys However when the court re porter submitted her first bill of J44 for a portion of the pro ceedings the county commis sioners acting on the advice of Marshall refused payment Marshall contends the law provides for payment from pub lic funds of transcripts in cases where the defendant is convict ed and not where a no decision verdict is rendered He says Judge Compton exceeded his jurisdiction in ordering the transcript be prepared Since the refusal the court reporter has stopped any fur ther work which would cost an estimated 51000
