teaspoon soda cup currants 1 tablespoon grated lemon rind 2 tablespoons sugar Mix flour baking powder su gar and salt Cut in shortening with two knives or pastry blender until mixture resembles coarse cornmeal Add sour cream soda and currants mix lightly until dough holds together Transfer to floured board Knead lightly and roll into circle about 10 inches in diameter Mix lemon rind and sugar and sprinkle over dough Cut into wedge shaped pieces Bake on cookie sheet in hot oven for 12 to 15 minutes Makes 6 medium wedges Relief Shop in Need of Articles Reception Honors Hawthorne Couple Married recently in the LDS Chapel in Hawthorne were Miss awn Dayle Petty daughter of Mr and Mrs Lewis James Petty and Jack Sheffield son of Jdr and Mrs Sheffield of Bak ersfield Calif With Mrs Dayton pre siding the board of the Nevada Relief Association met Wednes day morning in the crypt of Trin ity Episcopal Church Members present were Mesdames Reginald Meaker Herbert Sewell A Stadtherr Louis Ward Newcombe red Cunningham Grant Bowen Charles McNitt Davis A Melner and William Saxton also the Rev John Ledger and Atkin son Letters were read expressing appreciation of last do nation to Hadassah and of the monthly contribution to the rec reational fund for the patients at the Nevada State Hospital The usual ebruary donations were approved and in response to several special requests for as sistance it was voted to purchase an automatic washer for the oundation at Eagle Valley and to assist in purchasing a new mimeographing machine for the YWCA Mrs Dayton stressed again the urgent need for clothing for chil dren as well as adults and asked that the fact be publicized as much as possible that the Relief Shop depends altogether on dona tions of discards from the Reno and Sparks community in order to help the local needy and also to be able to continue to answer the many calls for financial help for worthwhile causes Youth work is one of the main interests of the Nevada Relief Association and the board is always glad to be able to help in the fine efforts of many local organizations to provide improved opportunities for the young people growing up in the community Anyone with clothing or useful household articles to spare is urged to bring them by the Re lief Shop at 219 Lake Street or a telephone call to A 2 2640 will bring the pick up truck to the door to call for them Officiating at the private cere mony was Bishop John Clark Immediately after the cere mony the young couple greeted their friends at a reception in the home of the uncle and aunt Mr and Mrs Curry A pink and white wedding cake centered the refreshment table which was covered with a white lace cloth lanking the cake were white tapers in crystal can delabra Mrs Curry cut the cake while Mrs John Buggar also an aunt of the bride presided over the punch bowl Assisting in other duties were Miss Mary Ann Mc Kinnon Miss Cherie Lynn Petty Miss Adair Black Miss Judy Buggar Miss Susie Petty Miss Sandra Smith Out of town guests were Mr and Mrs Sheffield parents of the bridegroom his sister Betty and brother Robert all from Bakersfield Calif also an other brother William Sheffield of Paso Robles Calif Grandparents of the bride Mr and Mrs Lewis James Petty Sr came from Smithfield Utah and Mr and Mrs John Buggar and daughter Judy from Ogden Utah Also Mr and Mrs Smith and daughter Sandra Mrs Paul Tholl and sons Pat and Mark Mrs McKinnon and daugh ter Mary Ann Mrs rank Le pori and son rank all of Sparks Also Mrs John Dewar and Tom Petty and Susie Petty all of Mina PEO Chapter Has the will of the late James lood Second speaker was Dr Wallace Stegner of Stanford University dean of the department whose talk dealt with the mechanics of writing Mrs May Mellinger of Santa Cruz Calif was also a speaker She is an author and her latest book is entitled of the Con cluding the program Ralph Moody who calls himself the told of his boy hood days in Colorado where the family moved from the state of Maine due to the health of his father Mrs Parker stated that the luncheon was attended by more than 200 guests from the San Jose area and of especial interest the table decorations featur Longero of Battle Moun tain and Roger Iveson of Reno recently The Rev Leo Mcad den officiated 'The church was decorated with Christmas greens of cedar and holjy with white Peter John chrysanthemums arranged in standing white baskets and the pews marked with white tapers tied with holly and satin bows The bride wore a wedding gown of Chantilly type lace over slip per satin fashioned with tight fitting bodice ankle length skirt and long sleeves The neckline was outlined in sprays of irides cent beads and pearls Her fin gertip veil of finest imported il lusion held in place by a crown of pearls was borrowed from her sorority sister Mrs Dixie Cook Lawrence Longero gave his daughter in marriage The bride carried a bouquet of white orchids and fleur with knotted streamers and her only adornment was a small sil ver cross with a diamond in it gift of her bridegroom She car ried a white prayer book the gift of ather Mcadden and an heirloom rosary of silver beads which has been in the family for more than two hun dread years and which was brought from Spain by her grandmother Mrs Ramon Oyar bide when she returned from a recent visit there The tradi tional blue garter was a gift of her aunt Mrs Allen Barrett of Mountain View Calif The bride was attended by Miss Trudy Caddell of Roseville Calif as maid of honor Miss Patty Lamoreaux of Carlin and Miss Theresa Naveran of Reno bridesmaids all sorority sisters The attendannts were all gowned alike in dresses of frosty white crystallette made with tight bodice short sleeves and very full ballerina length skirts They carried sparkled silver and white satin muffs with silvered spar kled holly sprigs and wore crowns of holly in their hair rank Sullivan of Reno was best man and ushers were Tom Davis and Gary Brock of Reno The bride is the daughter of Mrs Clinton Hinman and Law rence Longero of Battle Moun tain She attended the elemen tary school of Battle Mountain and was graduated from Notre Dame High School of Belmont Calif and is a sophomore stu dent at the University of Nevada affiliated with Delta Delta Delta The bridegroom is the son of Mr and Mrs Iveson of Reno A graduate of the Reno High School and he is attending the University of Nevada His fraternity is Lamba Chi Alpha Mrs Hinman chose for her wedding a pink bro cade frock and her corsage was white orchids Mrs Iveson moth er of the bridegroom wore a grey sheath dress and her cor sage was alsp white orchids The reception took place im mediately after the ceremony in the Delta Delta Delta house where the newlyweds cut their wedding cake in the traditional manner and greeted their guests Connie Longero sister of the bride was in charge of the guest book Mrs Allen Barrett aunt of the bride and Miss Ethel Wise of Elko served the cake The Misses Nancy and Betty Iveson sisters of the bridegroom passed the favors or traveling as the couple left for a honeymoon at Carmel Calif the bride wore an aqua wool sheath dress with black coat and
