violators was evident yesterday with release of the traffic monthly compilation of accident statistics Almost twice as many persons were injured in Reno traffic accidents last month as in December 1955 The statistics prepared by Capt Louis Spitz and re Possible Break In Is Investigated At Harris ood Center Police investigated a possible breakin attempt at the Harris ood Center 1045 ourth St yesterday Manager John Jackson re ported that two boards were broken off a sliding door at the rear of the store However neither he nor owner Len Harris could find an indication that entry had been gained to the store Police said that the boards were either ripped off as a or that a burglar at tempting to gain entrance was frightened away before he could complete his task Young Marine Takes Own Life HAWTHORNE Jan 2 (UR) An 18 year old Marine was found dead New day at his guard post near the Hawthorne Naval Ammunition Depot apparently the victim of a self inflicted gun shot wound Officers at the Naval installa tion identified the victim as Pfc Eugene Tonglet Petty a son of Alfred Henry Petty of Oklahoma City Okla and Mrs lore Mae reeman of Eugene Ore Petty apparently had shot him self in Bartender Held Along With Number Of Youngsters accidents involved 166 drivers Police handed out 98 citations for the 96 accidents they investigated Driver Violations Driver violations for the month included 16 arrests for driving while drunk Citations were handed out to 19 who failed to yield the right of way ten who were speeding ten who made il legal turns and nine who followed too closely in traffic Police said 40 of the 166 drivers involved in December auto acci dents were in the 25 to 34 age bracket The next biggest num ber 29 were between 45 and 51 Twenty seven drivers were under 21 years of age There were 132 male drivers in volved in last accidents as compared to 34 women drivers the records show Only 43 of the drivers were non residents Role Minor Speed as usual played only a minor role in causing accidents Of the 166 vehicles 93 were traveling less than 20 miles an hour The accidents involved 131 pas senger cars 26 trucks five taxi cabs three buses and a motor cycle Three pedestrians were in jured in the mishaps Monday with 18 accidents was the worst day of the week for December driving followed by Wednesday with 16 accidents The worst driving hours were 9 am to 10 am 2 pm to 3 pm and 3 to 4 Seven accidents occurred in each of the hour long time brackets James Widger Taken by Death James tWidger of 337 Toana St died at a Reno hospital on Dec 31 in his 73rd year A native of Iowa Mr Widger had been employed by a local club for several years He is survived by a son Hubert Widger of Napa Calif uneral services will be held at 1 today at the Walton uneral Home with the Rev Ar thur Thurman of the irst Methodist Church officiating 1 Ella Baumgardner Is Taken by Death ELKO Jan 2 Mrs Ella Baumgardner 73 resident of Elko for the last 13 years died December 27 at the local hos pital after a short illness A native of Sisterville she is survived by three sons and three daughters Harry Russell and rank Baumgardner Jr Mrs John Vignolo Mrs Roxie Webb and Mrs George Chapin all of Elko two brothers John Lewis of Huntington Va and Robert Lewis of armland Ind and 11 grandchildren Teen antics marred the relatively quiet New Eve enjoyed by Reno police By sunrise New Day of ficers had arrested three teen agers for illegally having liquor one for reckless driving and one for driving while intoxicated They had also arrested one bar tender on charges of selling liquor to minors The bartender Roy Turner of 483s Ninth St pleaded inno cent in municipal court yesterday to charges he sold a bottle of champagne to a 19 year old Reno youth Officers arrested the bartender after observing the youth enter the Commercial Row establish ment where he was employed and come out a few moments later with the bottle tucked under his arm The youth pleaded guilty to buying liquor while still under age and was fined $10 Car ull of Beer Earlier in the evening police in the downtown area had stopped a car carrying two youngsters aged 16 and 17 to confiscate a keg of beer and an estimated 48 cans of beer Officers said neither of the youngsters had been in trouble before and neither had tasted the forbidden brew by the time they were arrested Although the teen agers refused to reveal the source of the beer they were re leased to the custody of their par ents without formal charges being placed against them The par ents officers said when they learned about the activities of their children At 12:30 am a 16 year old driver found speeding on Center St and gunning his loud exhaust pipes was arrested for reckless driving An hour later another 16 year old was arrested on Cen ter St for driving while drunk Both were assigned to attendance at the special police juvenile traf fic school ormer Sparks Resident Dies Donald Tate formerly of Sparks but more recently of Los Angeles Calif died in that city December 30 1956 He was 42 years of age and a native of Muncie Ind Survivors are his wife Mrs Josephine Tate of Los Angeles his mother and father Mr and Mrs Jess Tate of 531 12th St Sparks Mr Tate was known as a musician and had recently been discharged from the Armed orc es Since his discharge he had been associated with University Motors in Los Angeles uneral arrangements which are incomplete will be an nounced by the Walton uneral Home Newly Opened Vegas Casino Posts $71128 Bond After Attachment Writ Is Issued LAS VEGAS Jan 2 Offi cials of the Hacienda Hotel on the Las Vegas strip today posted a $71129 bond with the of fice nullifying a writ of attach ment obtained New Eve by Jake Kozloff deputies attempted to satisfy the attachment from the newly opened strip casino after the attachment was granted but a casino spokesman said business as usual perhaps bet The move was reminiscent of the New writ of attach ment at the Royal Nevada Hotel a year earlier which caused em ployes to scoop up all the money in sight on gambling tables and led to closure of the hotel The action followed filing of a suit of Jacob Kozloff who claimed he was owed $71129 by the hotel llis attorney Louis Weiner said Kozloff had loaned Casino Opera tions Inc the operating corpora tion the money and was entitled to repayment on demand However William Bayley chairman of the board of directors said "This is a com pletely spurious claim resulting from a personal disagreement from Kozloff ortunately we carry a large cash reserve and the effect of the attachment on the casino operation was Kozloff was denied a gambling license by the state tax commis sion when the casino was licensed He sought permission to manage the casino The nature of
