portant witness in the conviction of gang leader Jack Santo in the Mabie Monahan slaying today tied Santo to a second murder erneaux testifying in the Ed mund Hansen murder trial told the jury that Santo told him put George Boles and (Emmett) Per kins in there for that George Boles Jr and Perkins are co defendants with Santo in the December 29 1951 slaying of the gold miner in a robbery Sheriff Wayne Brown moved an other deputy to the trial today to supplement the three already on hand and observers said they ap peared to be keeping a closer on convicted murders Santo and Perkins in anticipation of a possible escape attempt One deputy said that with much of the testimony in a break is expected at any time erjieaux said he appeared at the home of Bernadine Pearney one of girl friends near Grass Valley at request in March or April 1952 some three months after the Hansen murder He said they talked about various things until the conversation came around to the Hansen murder Utah are going to meet at Stead Air orce Base for what will be as rigorous a week of training as Scouts ever get They are going to be given survival train ing along with the men from the Strategic Air Command The work will be done in the high Sierra country and the weather in the latter part of December can be rigorous up there The Scouts and the adult Scouters are nevertheless looking forward to the experience and will ail be here on Monday morning Activities which will be included in the seven day program are snow shelters and arctic survival orienteering by day and night survival hunting including the use of traps and the method of skin ning deer survival communica tions mountaineering marksman ship including use of the rifle and how to live off the land According to Don Moyer and George Winchester Region 12 Scout executive and deputy both from Las Angeles the purpose of the survival trek is to train key explorers and scouters so hey will in turn be capable of instructing
