Speaking at his weekly general audience, the Pope indicated, however, that he saw no way of revoking his decision to continue the Roman Catholic ban on all artificial contraception since it was the law of God. "We wonder whether among the motives for objections leveled 'against the encyclical 'Hu- manae Vitae' (Of Human Life), there wasn't a secret thought: to abolish a difficult law to make life easier," the Pope told several thousand pilgrims gathered in St. PeteVs Basilica.

"But if this is law, which has its foundation in God, how must this be done?" The pontiff said he also wondered whether the drastic decline in priestly vocations was also due to the desire for an easy life. construction in Wheeling.
