WAGE INCREASE OR MINERS STATENOMINAL Labor Official Shows Earnings Not Uniform Wages per hour and per day and average weekly earnings for all types of employment in the min ing industry have increased during the past few years Gibson state labor commissioner rejiorted at Carson City to the United Press However he said mining could not meet the higher wages being paid by war industries and lost many of its men to higher paying and more essential jobs Gibson sent questionnaires to the 159 mines in Nevada and on the basis of such returns report ed to the governor on the present mining situation He said that of the total only 88 questionnaires came back to his office and the remaining 4465 per cent of establishments failed to report rom the data submitted Gib son said it was indicated there had been changes in the wage structure in the mining industry with increased rates of pay grant ed for second and third shifts and for working periods other than the day shift He said that statewide average weekly rates of pay for mine workers would total about $2700 annually if the rate held true throughout the year but pointed At the same time Dr John Pugh also a resident of Aurora was elected lowest wages in that field paying about $4030 per week Tonopah Reports Mining Activity TONOPAH March 22 (Spe cial) Seven cars of ore were shipped out of Tonopah over the Tonopah Goldfield railroad in ebruary Three cars came from leases operating on the Tonopah Divide property at Divide and four were shipped by Tonopah Mining company lessees Jim Smith owner of the A and and quicksilver proper ties in the Warm Springs district of Nye county 50 miles east of Tonopah is preparing to resume both mining and retorting opera tions after a shutdown of some months rank and Morris have purchased the property of the Brougher Divide Mining company in Esmeralda county from the county and are planning on re opening it as soon as equipment can be assembled Polaris To Pay Dime Dividend The Polaris Mining Company of Idaho has declared a dividend of 10 cents a share payable April 20 stock of record March 23 This is the Polaris initial payment for the current year and brings the dividend rec ord past the million mark or $1 140000 Polaris owns a one half interest in what is designated as the "Omega" area consisting of 2200 feet of ground on the rich Chester vein opened and operated through the Sunshine mine workings This vein in the Omega area highly productive of both lead and silver on and above the 3000 foot level and has recently been opened 600 feet below or on the 3700 level where it says the bureau's report increased 2251 tons or nine per cent in January The mines in this area produced 49 per cent of the United total of recoverable zinc in Janu ary About 90 per cent of Idaho zinc comes from the mining and pro cessing of lead silver ores Yerington Drill Plan Completed The International Smelting and Refining Company has closed its Guild Adams property one mile from Yerington and has discon tinued all operations there The pump and underground equiument are being dismantled and shipped out The company started its exten sive development program in the Yerington district in the
