The American Baptist Magazine will be published in this city. The first number will appear January 15th, 1S94, with W. B. Johnson as managing editor. The Baptist Association could not have selected a better man for this important work.

Johnson, of the Bureau of Engraving and printing, hates the negro. What ought the negro democrats do now to have the wholesale discharge of their race discontinued. The negro democrats have a duty to perform and at once- Is this the doitrine they have been teaehing to the negro as no such was taught by republicans. The wholesale dismissal of colored giils without any cause whatever is a strong doctrine to preah on the stump in q6. There will be negro democrats fools enough to explain this away.

All negroes are not fools if their enemies think so. What has become of the negro democratic league? Well the boys are living in hopes of a better day. They will ch inge basis shortly and will desert the sinking ship. Some men are too honest to be rascals. Let us have suffrage in the District of Columbia.

There is no reason that the negro should be deprived of his vote. In union there is strength. The vided. negro would rather be di- No man should be an officer of the government who has prejudices. Disappointments are bound to come to usall.
