Society, THE WELLINGTON (TEXAS) LEADER Thursday, December 2, 1965 Shower for Lynda Orr Highlights Social Scene This Thanksgiving Social events of the Thanksgiving holiday centered around the pre-nuptial shower given for Miss Lynda Orr Saturday evening, November 26 in the home of Mrs. Henry Sullivan. The wedding itself will highlight the Christmas season, for Miss Orr, daughter of Dr. and Mrs. J.

M. Orr, and Joe Davis, son of Mr. and Mrs. Jack Davis, have selected December 19 as the date. Joining Mrs.

Sullivan as hostesses were Mrs. Barney Glenn, Mrs. Elvis Crawley, Mrs. Heber Brantley, Mrs. John Holton and Mrs.

Bura Handley. The guests were received by Mrs. Sullivan and presented to Miss Orr, Mrs. Orr, Mrs. Davis, and Mrs.

M. N. Orr of Memphis, grandmother of the bride-to-be. Miss Ann Godfrey of Lubbock registered the guests. The centerpiece on the serving table was of white chrysanthemums in variegated sizes touched softly with green on petal points, and arranged with bright green leaves in a milk glass tiered bowl.

Adding a note to the fall decor were the brass appointments. Guests were served coffee or hot spic- Mrs. Eddie Slay Speaks at BPW Mrs. Eddie Slay was guest speaker for members of the Business and Professional Women's Club at their dinner meeting Tuesday evening, November 23. She spoke on the Bill of Rights, then drew members into the discussion.

Mrs. Rufus Sweat and Miss LaHonda Mayhugh were the program directors. In the business session, directed by Mrs. H. L.

Jenkins, plans were made for the club's annual Christmas party. Miss Loleta Kees, county horn demonstration agent, became a member of the club. Those attending were Mrs. Slay, Mrs. Bill Warrick, Mrs.

Creed Hill, Mrs. Fred Wat- ed tea by Mrs. Kent Peoples of Canyon. Others in the house party were Mrs. Ben Meadors, Miss Vicki Glenn and Miss Frances Hill.

Members of the two families who came from out of town to the shower were Mrs. Roy Lower and daughter, Christy of San Angelo, Mrs. Bob Kiner of Memphis, Mrs. Arvin Orr of Plaska, Mrs. W.

K. Davis of Lefors, and Miss Sue Ward of Ada, Oklahoma, and also Mrs. G. C. Godfrey of Spur, mother of Miss Godfrey.

Guests called between the hours of six-thirty and eight o'clock. Dodson Woman Entertains UDC Chapter 1845 of the United Daughters of the Confederacy met for a covered dish luncheon in the home of Mrs. B. B. Martin of Dodson Saturday, November 20.

Lunch was served from a table decorated in keeping with the Thanksgiving motif. Turkey and the trimmings were served. After lunch a business meeting was held with the president, Miss Tops Gilreath of Memphis presiding. Roll call was answered by a states' rights amendment to the Constitution. The president gave her report on the national convention held recently in Houston.

Mrs. W. M. Stiner of Childress gave secretary and treasurer reports. Members attending were Mrs.

Stiner, Mrs. James Smith, Mrs. E. A. Stephens, Mrs.

J. E. Begley, and Miss Ella Mae Taylor of Childress; Mrs. Lorena Hart and Miss Gilreath of Memphis, and Mrs. Martin.

The next meeting will be the Christmas program in the home of Mrs. Stiner in Childress. Thanksgiving visitors with Mr. and Mrs. Otto Russell were Mr.

and Mrs. I. D. Russell and Dan, and Sam. and Mrs.

Sam Rus- and Mrs. Leo Russell divided their holiday in the home of her parents also, Mr. and Mrs. Elvis Crawley. dre ton, Miss Mayhugh, Mrs.

Mr. and Mrs. W. D. Ferguson and children, Carolyn and Stephen of Borger were holiday guests of their daughter, Mr.

and Mrs. Scott Neill and family. Fiancee of Richard Carter Miss Carmen Marie Preusser, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. E.

F. Preusser of 1104 Washington, Amarillo, and Richard Wiley Carter of Canyon will be married December 29 in St. Mary's Catholic Church in Amarillo. Mr. Carter, formerly of Wellington, is the son of Mrs.

C. W. Patrick of San Angelo and Richard Carter of Spearman. The bride-elect was graduated from St. Mary's Academy and attended Amarillo College.

The prospective bridegroom holds a Bachelor's Degree from West Texas State University. Mf. and Mrs. ftudy fate and small sons, Lynn and Stan, of Dumas were here for Thanksgiving with their parents, Mr. and Mrs.

W. R. Breeding of Abra andMrs. Ernest fate and Miss Elaine Tate of Wellington. Tate, a former county agent of Dallam county, recently became the representative of Producers Grain Association in Dumas.

Tho Thanksgiving holidays brought two former county couples home to the Kelley community, Mr. and Mrs. Kelly White of Frisco, Colorado, and Mr. and Mrs. Olaf Harkleroads of Cotton Center.

They visited their mother, Mrs. Winfield White and other relatives. Mr. and Mrs. C.

B. Clark of Amarillo visited recently with her son and family, Mr. and Mrs. Francis children. Roberts and A week's visit with relatives has ended for the Rev.

and Mrs. Gerald Squyres and children, Waymon, Warren, Shannon, Cheryl, Rhonda, and Diane of Anaheim, Calif. Rev. Squyres is now with a company specializing in church financing, and is in charge of investigating church applicants. This work takes him to all parts of the United States, relatives said.

Dorshia Dix. Guests of Mr. and Mrs. Harold Watkins for the Thanksgiving holiday were their daughter and grandsons, Mrs. Ed Hill, Bradley Scott and Greg and Mrs.

Watkins sister, Mrs. Joe Shields, all of Ama- rillc. Betty Courtney, a student in Wayland College and a member of the Flying Queens basketball team, was home for Thanksgiving with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Lynn Courtney.

She brought with her another member of the Queens, Judy Taylor of Jackson, Miss. The entire group were in Canyon for Thanksgiving Day with Mr. and Mrs. Max Courtney and children. Mf.

and Mrs. Pete Smith, students in Texas Tech, Lubbock, were home for the Thanksgiving holiday With their parents, Mrs. Allen 1. Smith in the north part of the county, and Mr. and Mrs.

Selba Rainey of Lufie. Mr. and Mrs. Jeff Wilson and daughters, Diana and Lisa, were in Amarillo for Thanksgiving day with their parents. Spending Thanksgiving with Mr.

and Mrs. Jimmie Kelso were their daughters, Mr. and Mrs. Robert Fleming and children, Deborah and Daren of Austin and Miss Anna Kay Kelso, a freshman in Abilene Christian College. Mr.

and Mrs. Wesley Savage of Amarillo were here for the holiday with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. R. T.

Savage. Guests in the home of B. B. Martin of Dodson over the Thanksgiving holidays were Mr. and Mrs.

Wylie Gear, Danny and Jimmy, all of San Antonio. Bill Lackey, who teaches in the Dumas schools, returned for the holiday week end with his his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Jack Lackey. Fred Watkins, a student in North Texas State University, Denton, was here for the holidays with his parents, Mr.

Mrs. Maude Vaughn gave the opening prayer. Mrs. Jesse Motsenbocker conducted business in which a shut-in was adopted by the group for the following year. Mrs.

Ruth Wyrick read the minutes. Mrs. Emmett Cook and Mrs. Russell Hill led the recreation period. The Thanksgiving motif was carried out in decorations and refreshments.

Members present were Mrs. M. C. Cleveland, Mrs. Emmett Cook, Mrs.

Russell Hill, Mrs. Byran Cleveland, Mrs. Emil Kersten, Mrs. Ruth Wyrick, Mrs. Jesse Motsenbocker, and the hostess, Mrs.
