June 20 Min Jo Ann Fincher of west of Marlow became the bride of Mr Due of Randlett June 20th The marriage was solemnized 'in the parsonage of the First Baptist church of Irving at three with die Rev Cooper and Mr Cooper of that community She is a graduate of Central High School after which she attended at Chickasha She was employed at the Southwestern Bell Telephone Co in Lawton until the -date of her marriage Mir Due who is a son of Mr and Mrs Due of Randlett is a graduate of Randlett Highschool -and later attended school at Ed- nAfter a short visit with relatives the couple will leave for Indianapolis Ind where they will make home Mr Due is employed -with the Bridgeport Brass Company 'in that city Post Nuptial Affair Honors Mrs Benton Prichard Friday Mis Bren ton Prichard who before her recent marriage was Miss Ada Jeanette Kirk was complimented on Friday night by friends and neighbors with a post-nuptial party at Beaver School Snap-dragons and dahlias were effectively arranged throughout the room to create a colorful background The time was spent inform--ally in conversation and various games were played At the conclusion of the social hour the recent bride was presented Hemphill fair manager stated this week and said that the junior section will be stressed The 37th annual agricultural rnd livestock exposition will be held in Oklahoma City Sept 26 through October 3 Some alterations may be expected in the senior livestock department which has annually attracted large herds of registered animals from all parts of the nation This will be done in order to cooperate with the government in relieving pressure on interstate transportation arteries the fair manager explained Mr and Mrs Neese of Seminole visited Sunday with Mrs Cora Hill They were accompanied home by installation officer Monday afternoon at an installation meeting of the First Christian church missionary society Rev Gibble arranged an impressive ceremony at which each retiring officer insbdled her Pounds Mrs Zachary World Call chairman reelected Mrs Sparks pianist by Mrs Flank l- The new executive board is Mrs Sylvia Sherrod Mrs Logan Rogers and Mrs -Hines Jones Mrs Cobb presented each new Call and the group will meet wife Mrs Mullins This week old copies of The Review of the autumn of 1918 have furnished the reminders of the time of World War One Headlines of one issue Oct 24 1818 revealed a number of items of interest Among them: "Curtis Anthony Shell So read the headline and the story continued to say that word had at last been received from the War department by his parents that he had not been severely injured as was the first report but was shell shocked on September 23 A letter from other soldiers to parents stated they believed Virgil jackson also from Marlow had suffered shell shock at the same time Another headline from the same paper is "Press McKinney Writes Mr McKinney wrote a lengthy letter in which he stated be was going to the front line trenches He described a narrow escape from bullets by dodging into trenches Letters from soldiers in were listed in the same paper of 1918 These included letters from Ray Rider who wrote that he had just seen Fred Idlett's name among the casualties Jdlett was one for whom the Idlett-Click American Legion Post is named Another letter was from Gibson Stone who wrote that he was in a hospital suffering from "something like He said he had been over the top twice Shaw Anthony wrote his parents that he was on the edge of Germany where he had been since Aug 9 Claud Bishop wrote his brother from -France that he was receiving the Review and enjoyed hearing from home William Apple wrote a letter to friends at Stover in which he described his church activities in France He prophesied he would be at home by Christmas Robert Cadi wrote that he had been in taro big drives and had seen lots of dead Germans An issue of Sept 26 1918 announced a new draft lottery in preparation and ordered local draft boards to speed up assignment of serial numbers On Sept 12 there had been a registration of men between 18 and 21 and 31 to 46 In Stephens county a total of 2757 had registered in that draft The draft board was ordered to disregard marriages of these draftees if they were after Aug 5 1918 Much of the news of the papers of those days was very similar to what appears today For instance a drive for the War Work Campaign fund was on in Marlow The local quota was set at $4150 A free publicity notice in the paper of that day said "Remember the men in the army and nagy do not expect luxuries Should we at home expect them Buy necessities and spend the rest for War Saving In the classified ad column appeared this ad: Sale New Ford touring car Going to army Must sell this week Priced $560 Phone 52 on laicals in the paper stated that four men left from the county tor induction at Camp Cody Among them were Powell and Roper of Marlow More publicity said men may enlist in the aviation service Since the increase of flying fields to 29 more men may enlist in flying A total of 6600 prospective flyers were enlisted in 1917 it was stated Another notice said Perce-full chairman of local knitting asks that all garments being knitted for the Red Cross be in by Saturday A former Review employee Sidney Bray sailed for overseas in September of 1918 the Review stated Another Marlow man Osro Garris was commissioned a lieutenant at officers training camp at Han- cock Georgia Kg headlines announced the re- turn of First Battle here to visit his wife Sgt Thomp-here to visit his wift Sgt Thomp-! son was detailed home from France to instruct raw recruits at Camp Travis in Texas He had been in the Lorraine sector i A call for 66 draftees to leave in October 1918 was cancelled be-j cause of the
