The Advantages of small farms are so apparent to any one who takes the trouble to investigate the subject that it is singular that our farms continue as large as they do. A few days ago as I was in the village of Preston my attention was called to the field of growing corn owned by Dr. Willis, who, by the way, is an enthusiastic and practical agriculturist. This field is of some four acres, and the corn will average from 11 to 12 feet from one side to the other; some specimens aj high as 13 feet. It will make not less than 200 bushels, which is as much as many farms triple the size will do; and just see the dillcrcnce in the cost of arc but few acres that can not be made produce from 20 to 30 bus.

of wheat per acre where one-third is nearer the average. This difference can not 4 be reached so quickly as dividing and su'i-di- our large unproductive farms.
