River County for believing in the children It is the mission of Dollars for Scholars to offer hope encouragement and scholarship opportunities to Indian River County students who demonstrate desire academic ability and financial need so that they may pursue a post-secondary education For more information concerning Dollars for Scholars scholarship opportunities call board of the Dollars For ScholarsCitizen's Scholarship Foundation is so important to me because I feel I am repaying the wonderful people who believed in me so many years ago A well-educated citizen group is what makes the United States the powerful country it is No other country in this world promotes the expectation that every single citizen be educated to their fullest potential Every young person deserves a chance to nave a dream and the hope that their future will be fulfilling and successful! school I began to realize that going to college cost of money and that being the oldest of five children at the time (my parents had another son after I left to go to college) I would not be able to expect my parents to help me High-school guidance counselors helped me fill out applications for a few available scholarships and the National Defense Student Loan Program I did receive approval to participate in the loan program and received a few book scholarships However I received a letter in the mail announcing that I was a recipient of a community scholarship that I feel is similar to Dollars for Scholars in Indian River County I had not applied for this scholarship Later I found out that the community fund sought out deserving young people who wanted to go on to school but did not have die means to do so Without this scholarship sure I would not have been able to attend college! To this day I am so grateful for the community's support to me Working as a member of the Si' Dollars Jbr Scholars that it took almost Vi hours to get to school even though I lived only three miles from the school There were times that I would plead with my father to drive me on a tractor to the road to catch a bus in a blizzard because I just miss a day of school! During my junior year in high I grew up in a small farming -community in Geneseo 111 I always dreamed of being a teacher like Miss Shoemaker my teacher for first- second- and third-grades You see I attended a small rural one-room schoolhouse Wilder-muth School along with 17 other children who lived on farms in the area My first-grade class had seven students in it I remember 1101PJSG01 1 5 i i.
