TBE OPESIBKJ OF TBB OPERA HOUSE. A Open- fjf) Lester Wallack's play "Eosedale 1 Is a Xjelter from ntilford, Mr.

Editor: The aniouncement in last pal elec'Ion In Milford closed with the following statement: "The Selectmen issued a printed report year wtich seemed very satisfactoiy to the citizens as they re-elected the enlire board," Implying that the management of the town as shown by the secured the result named. i As tbe printed reports were not distributed until after, the ojcning of the town Ladles' Select Thursday 4vening 1 Dancln? from eight until eleven no refreshments. Jbbn L. Cutler, returned with his wife and daughter on Saturdiy from an examine them before voting, it must have been a remarkable report to have bad the retroactive your correspondent ascribes to It. And when upon examination the report describes the town's indebtedness, very largely increased during the past year, some might be led to wonder what there can be In such management to call for tbe enthusiastic endorsement of any body of intelligent voteirs.

Tbe fact the vote of last Monday, (as well as a year ago) represents the strength t)f tbe Fusion party of enough "dissatisfied" Republicans to carry the town--tbe spoils being divided; and the "report" which has produced the greatest efiect is not the print.ec report alluded to, but one earlier and more industriously circulated, to the effect that "crookedness" bad been discovered on the part of former '(Republican) officials, and darkly hinting atjastounding revelations of financial depravity which tbe forthcoming report would reveal. That their rumored "report," which for weeks had "stalked 'upon; the earth and hid ita bead among the clouds," might receive no check until it bad done its complete work, tbe -'printed report" seems to have been carefully wkhbeld. i ow have it, showing the year's app oprlatioos largely overdrawn In al- inoet every instance, and more than one- half of the net Indebtedness of the.town as the legacy of last year's financiering, and this Is ao "satisfactory" fiat some Republicans who aided In last Monday's work and still exult in it, are willing to perpetuate it to gratify personal ill-feeling against other of their Republican co-workers. Milford Is a Republican but so access on the metropolitan stage. The Bangor Amateurs have been in ac.ive rehearsal for some timetnd a very superior presentation may be expected at our beautiful Opera House on the grand opening, Tuesday evening of, next week.

A rehearsal of "Rosedale' 1 occurred at Music Hall last evening and, commenting Wednesday evening, rehearsals will take place at the Opera House; and will be held there succeeding evenings up to thp time of presentation. After a very amusing scene between Elliot and Rosa, during whieh jRosa bandages Elliot's hand which was jlnjtired in the affray with McKenna in the first act, Elliot falls asleep before the oper. itre aud McKenna comes in a stealthy manner seeking some valuable papers which he finds and then to bis joy discovers Hot and sees an opportunity to se- curei revecge for tbe blow received. He binds to his chair and proposes to brand! him witfh a heated hammer. Elliot wakBSJand finding himself in the power of the villain offers two hundred pounds to be released. McKenna consents and Elliot is unbound and commences to write a check put, noticing that McKenna is heating hamper to itill further punish him'after the check is delivered, writes instead a note'explanlng the situation and tbrowj It out ol the open window.

Tbe note Is Immediately discovered by Matthew Leigh who is sauntering undsr the window at the time and with his friends rust to the rescue and Elliot is released. Thei third act occurs in the interior of Matthew Leigh's cottage and introduces us to Tabitha Stork (Miss Mellie Brett), Matthiw Leigh's housekeeper, and Sarah Sykes (Miss Alice Veazie), an irrepressible housemaic. The opening of the act transpires about lunch time and nearly all of characters drop into lunca very to the disgust of Tabitha and the serious discomfiture of Matthew. After this Matthew avows his love for Lady May and finds bis affection Is reciprocated. McKenna appears disguised and claims to be the long lost brother of Matthew who had been abducted when a child.

McKenna produces a locket and some of the mother's hair worn by the child at the time of ab- and Matthew is obliged to acknowledge a felon, forger and thief as his brother.
