has picked up the search for missing Tara Calico where the State Police left off The Air Force volunteered today to aid searchers In Valencia County Undersheriff Bill Roach said today Helicopters will be sent over the Manzano Mountains to scout for the 19-year-old college student while troops will walk the Bosque close to NM 47 where Calico was last seen riding her bicycle Tuesday do a lot of decide this weekend whether a Tucumcari man convicted of first-degree murder in the death of his ex-wife should get a new triaL Attorneys for Eusebio Jaspar 37 argued Wednesday that his trial attorney did not provide an adequate defense Jaspar was convicted in June in the death of Cecilia Montoya Jaspar He also was convicted of carrying a firearm into a licensed liquor establishment a fourth-degree felony Authorities said Jaspar shot his ex-wife in the head while she was dancing then turned the gun on himself last November in a crowded bar original attorney Esteban Martinez was suspended from the state Bar Association for not paying his dues He wrote a check for the dues before the trial started but the check bounced after the trial Bonem said One of current lawyers Albert Mitchell said Martinez was not a licensed attorney at the time of the triaL WEST MESA FIRE No one injured in fire at home Albuquerque Fire Department arson investigators were investigating a west side fire today Battalion Chief Landsur Abukusumo said firefighters arrived at the home at 7304 Georgetown Ave NW around 11 pjn Thursday and found the roof ablaze By the time fire crews contained the fire most of the house had been damaged Abukusumo said No one including the owner Terri Minero 23 and her 3-year-old son were iijured in the fire occupant had been called out of her home just prior to the incident Campus has been missing since Tuesday just one day City may widen probe into softball funds Other workers could be placed on leave in theft investigation By DENNIS DOMRZALSKI Sta reporter City Hall and the Albuquerque Police Department have launched an investigation into allegations city Parks and Recreation Department employees have been stealing money from an outside fund used to pay softball officials Two department employees have been placed on administrative leave with pay and several more may be placed on leave beginning today said Dan Weaks the deputy chief administrative officer for public services So far $600 from the fund has been reported missing said Mike Walker director of Parks and Recreation But the extent of the alleged misuse yet known Weaks said He said the loss could involve thousands of dollars it occurred over The fund has contained up to $4000 Walker said A department secretary was arrested earlier this week on allegations she wrote a $150 check from the fund for cash Walker said He declined to release her name He did not identify the other position Both employees will be paid while on leave Walker said Department employees may be asked to take lie-detector tests before the probe is completed Weaks said The account belongs to the Officials Advisory Board a non-city volunteer group and is used to pay1 game officials Walker said Thursday The money in the account did not come from city funds Walker said Checkbooks and stamped signatures of the president and vice president were left in the Sports Office and may have been used by city employees to write checks for themselves Walker said The Officials Advisory Board aparently began leaving its checkbook with the Sports Office about nine years ago Walker said The board left it up to city employees to write the checks he said concern is that city employees in the-Sports Office were taking this money anti using it for their personal Walker said' feel like there has been some There were shots fired and police around the area Albuquerque police spokeswoman Mary Molina Mescall said Tom Otero 26 of the Dorado Place address was shot twice in the chest after a neighbor dispute Mescall said Otero had allegedly entered his apartment and was told to leave A neighbor Elizabeth Stevens 31 fired two shots from a pistol at Otero Mescall said He was taken to the University of New Mexico IIospitaL Otero was listed in guarded but stable condition said hospital officials Stevens was charged with aggravated battery Mescall said additional charges are pending State may revoke or suspend license Did you witness news event?
