On Saturday of last week the Fort Scott Foundry received an order from K. T. Railway Co. for six horse powers to drive pumps at me watering stations on the new portion of the road recently opened between Sedaha and Hannibal. The Foundry has furnished horse powers, for the road between this point and Texas, and this new order would indicate that the machinery heretofore furnished has given entire satisfaction.

Whereupon the petition was explained and enforced by Messrs. Case, Arm strong, Stratton and Barnes. Councilman Woodford moved that the ordinance committee be instructed to dralt and present an ordinance to do away with the petition required by statute before a license shall be granted for the sale of intoxicating liqnors. On motion the ayes aud nays were called with the following rcstilf; Voting for the motion councilraen Kingsbury, Woodford and Branson. Voting against said motion coun-cilmen Cunningham, Helsell and Kemper.

There being a tie on the vote, Mayor Wright voted nay, and the motion was declai ed lost. On motion the council adjourned. Nelson Case, City Clerk. The Agassian Association met at Miss Higbcy's rooms Tuesday, May 5tb, 1874, Moderator Perkins presiding, with quite a number of intelligent ladies and gentlemcu present. Miss Taylor, a distinguished literary lady from Montatifl; was present and took a part in the discussions.

Miss Higbey, from the committee on Botany, presented some specimens of ferns from the vicinity and made a history. She also spoke of other cryp- togamous plants. Miss Ella Higbey presented a full grown gad fly which had grown from the larva state since a prior meeting. The fly was one of those presented by Mr. Perkins to be kept and watched, so as to verify the assertions made in his lecture.

She also presented some violets with a view of gaining some information in relation to the formation of the pollen on that plant. Whereup on a conversation of a very interesting nature ocenrred, resulting in the analysis of the violet and many facts con nected with it. The Dictator announced the subject of discussion for the next meeting to be "The rearing of honse and garden plants," and Mr. Perkins' remarks on Meteorology. Dr.

Kewlon. made some remarks on the origin tit prairies and drew there from inferences about planting fruit trees. Messrs. MctiUl and Newlon were chosen to act as talismen. The Society decided to have afield exedreio'h within three weeks.
