The Dow Jones industrial average, which has lost more than 30 points in the past two sessions, was off 0.63 at 718.55 shortly after the opening. Declines led advances, 196 to 87, among the 422 issues crossing the tape. Turnover amounted to around 480,000 shares.

With the greater demands for food being placed on farmers, it is most important that proper attention be directed to getting maximum production with adequate protection of the soils. Of primary importance is proper land use.

Land has to be used within its capabilities. If the land is to be cropped, the importance of a proper water disposal system cannot be overstressed. A proper disposal system is one that removes the excess rainfall from the land at a rate that enables needed moisture to enter the soil. This excess water must be taken off in such a manner that top soil does not wash away. An adequate water disposal system may require some of all of the following: 1.
